Needed a winter beater/hauler after buying the Mustang. I actually developed some affection for that POS since I paid next to nothing for it, it never failed me and hauled my crap between three different houses without complaint. I later sold it to my mother who turned around and sold it to one of my sisters at a profit. That old lady is crafty.

It did not. Interestingly, the Beretta had an almost-identical 3.1L, which was somehow slower. The gp felt like a rocket compared to that Beretta, which may have been at least partially due to the three-speed automatic. God....I've come a long way since then I guess lol.

I got my license back in 1999 and I've only owned three cars.
1.) 1991 Ford Escort Pony for 6 years
-Gift from my Grandpa, who didn't drive it anymore. Automatic turd with no options that eventually received an engine from a 1997 bumping it up to a whopping 105 HP.
2.) 1999 Toyota Solara 4.5 years
-The first car I purchased. It was an unusual animal in that it had the V6 and a manual and every option possible. The clutch started to slip and I was tired of it so I sold it for way less than it was worth.
3.) 2007 VW GTI 4.5 years, and still going
-I love everything about this car. It is the DSG and while I miss the manual occasionally I love the DSG. I have no plans to get rid of this one after it is paid off and hopefully I'll get a few more years and at least 150,000 miles out of it.

198-something Nissan Sentra (My wife's first car, a hand-me-down from her parents.)
1988 VW Fox wagon (First car I ever owned on my own, paid my dad back for it—with interest.)
1996 Dodge Stratus (Former Avis rental, first car we bought together. It died when my wife pulled out in front of a city bus. She was fine. The Stratus not so much. That's okay, because I hated that car.)
2001 Golf (Replaced the Fox, still have it, 196k miles. Interior has gone to shit but it still runs like a champ.)
2003 Odyssey (Family truckster to haul the kids and all their soccer shit. Actually, pretty nice to drive.)
That's it. Absolutely nothing spectacular, but what's really spectacular about the Golf and the Odyssey is that they're paid for. That makes them the best cars ever. But it will soon be time to put the Golf out to pasture, and Oppo will be hearing from me at that time.

I'm always torn on road trips with him... Should we take the Mustang, Jeep, or Miata? Or combination of motorcycle and one of the above? Such a first world problem.

Well as it's a rally you should probably make your vehicle selection with the anticipation of winding up on gravel at some point

Many more than I can recall. But, I started out, like most, with beaters.

It's a base model with the DOHC Non-Turbo swapped in. It's also a Lemons car. It's pretty ugly:

Rover 216? Good man :) very AROnline.
Which year? I remember driving my mate's old '92 Rover 214 and being distinctly impressed at the time.

The 216 was an '88 I believe, the 214 was '94.
