"Mosqvich" (mosqvich)

One of my favorite missions I supported and worked with in Iraq and Kuwait was the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) mission and the group of incredibly brave Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors who went "outside the wire" to disable roadside bombs (IEDs) or to do some CSI work on exploded devices.
These professionals don't just remember how to do their jobs, they practice, practice, and practice some more. In the below video a quick introduction to their mission is made and an old Chrysler K-Car LeBaron is given the ending it richly deserves. I suppose it's a testament to the continuing value of the Chrylser bailout back in the 80's ("Chrysler Corporation Loan Guarantee Act of 1979" !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ).

NO! Glove leather, Cosworth head and performance internals with a block cast by Maserati in Italy, Getrag 5MT, 200HP engine, good handling while comfortable, reliable with cheap parts despite being handbuilt. Did I mention glove leather?
224HP partly-Lotus engine. T-tops. Caroll Shelby approved.
Minivan, turbocharged and with a stick? Yeah. Fake wood paneling? Hell yeah.
And these are just so damned cool looking.
I find these to be the best crappy cars of all time. I think I have a problem.

You underestimate the getaway power of a Shelby/Lotus combo, my friend. With a flash, the car you were applying plastique to would just zoom away.

I have to admit I was looking for a little more bang. But trust me, these guys know what they're doing and they probably didn't want to blow up their gazillion dollar robot along with the LeBaron.

They saved Chrysler, no doubt about it. When I was a kid they were actually very popular and sold like crazy. My Dad only drove big Lincolns, etc...., but many of my friends' families drove them.

You, sir, should get the K-It-Forward LeMons car. I deem thee a worthy home.

I want to make a resto-rod out of one of these. All black with a modern drivetrain, would be cool as hell IMO.

I don't think that's a Lebaron. Looks more like a New Yorker or E-class. Although it was an (E)xtended chassis based on the K, it was technically an E chassis.

How is this a fitting end?
The K platform was so popular that ChryCo paid the Government back early.
I'll take a Daytona, Turbo Woody wagon, Intercooled Lebaron GTC, Spirit R/T or even the Turbo New Yorker that the Chicagoland Shelby Dodge guys turned into a 12 second car for $1200.
Fitting end my balls.

It's fitting because it saved Chrysler and now the old ones are being used to save you. Indirectly.

After thinking on it. You can blow all of the non Turbo Mopars to hell.
Unless they're rust free.
I'll give up a few freedoms for a rust free 80s Mopar.

Hahaha definitely! One of my favorite Archer scenes... it brought me right back to that commercial when I saw it for the first time.

That Imperial ain't no K-car. It's one of the last classic Mopars, with V8 and RWD.

Aussie here... What does K-car mean?

The K-Car was a platform that Chyrsler used to save the company. It was financed through a government loan. The company was led by Lee Iacocca at the time. It worked. In fact, there are still some K-Car DNA in current vehicles, mainly the mini-van.

The Imperial was I think probably built on a larger than K Car platform, originally under Satellites or whatever they called intermediates at that point and then repurposed for larger cars. I could be wrong though. Later final style Imperials were on the K platform.

There is something endearing about the most overdecorated plushed up 3.8 V6 powered K Car ever, though.

Oh, that's a 1993 "Imperial". About half as wide as a REAL Imperial.

If it weren't for the K car, Chrysler wouldn't be here today. They might be crap, but they're heroes too.
