...buy old.
Doug touched on this a few weeks back and how the only people that ogle him in his 360 are men. This is definitely the case for any exotic. In fact, I can anecdotally vouch for this: I was walking with two women one evening, and a Murcielago Roadster rolls on by. In fact, it was the first time I've seen one in the wild. I obviously gawked for a minute straight, impressed, and then getting tight in the pants as it drove away and howled with a distinct Lamborghini V12 war cry. I was very impressed. The women? "I couldn't date a guy who spends so much money on a car." Obviously, that sentiment might be an exaggeration, but here's the point: owning an exotic is seen as projective. People think you want to show off your wealth. People think you need to compensate for something.
On the other hand, people don't have this perception with classic cars. Take the Model A pictured up top. These were, by no means, rare. Nor were they particularly revolutionary. Back in the day, nobody would have bat an eye at it, but now? You're going to turn every head within a two-hundred foot radius. Obviously, even a Model A is an extreme; it's just so old that you have to look and be impressed that it has been kept so long. It is a time machine back to a simpler era. But the same thing goes for muscle cars. Even though the process of restoring certain muscle cars can come close to the price of Demuro's 360, nobody thinks that muscle car ownership projects expositionality or arrogance.
Anywho, there's a short observation, while I procrastinate on studying for my Learning & Plasticity term test.

We need someone to write up a "So You Want To Drive a Pre-War Car?" piece.

Exotic: Dude has a lot of money to spend
Classic: Dude is used to spending time and attention on single things
In neither case is there a guarantee that the same is available to the woman as is available to the car, but there's a chance. OTOH, Classic Guy is (possibly) not projecting, and time and attention probably wins in overall calculus vs. just money.
I'm not a chick, obviously, but there *are* very different signals.

A Model T or a Model A will get you plenty of models, T, and A.

Woohoo! I'm a ladies man now!
(although I didn't actually get to keep the car until years after the wedding - it was my dad's car before this.)

True, and generally you're right, the classic guy is more likely to have bought his car for enjoyment rather than prestige, and the opposite is more likely to be the case with the exotic driver.

Hell yes. It might be out of left field, but I'm partial to the Citroen Traction Avant. To be fair, I doubt there's a wrong choice with any pre-war selection.

Roadkill did an experiment with an Aventador and the Sailor Jerry rat rod, the Lambo picked up all the dudes and the rat rod picked up all the chicks. There are some girls out there that like exotics and know about them and get excited just like us nutty gearheads do. But they are far and few between, most girls that are into cars like older metal. While there are big money old cars out there, a big money hot rod will still attract more female attention that an exotic. But then again a big money hot rod never gets driven and is pointless if it doesn't drive. I think it is more of an image between the old car and exotic, people automatically equate exotic car driver to a gigantic douche. People that are driving old cars and kustoms around don't really suffer the douche stigma as much. The resurgence in kustom car culture and hot rodding also has a factor with the ladies because it gives them a reason to get all dressed up in fancy dresses and wear Bakelite jewelry and put their hair up and feel like a pin-up model.

This is damn accurate. I've owned all kinds of different cars and nothing got more attention from the fairer sex than my old 1966 Impala. (Pictured) My friends had S2000's and Supras and girls flocked to my old sedan at every parking lot. I even got a date once because some long lost friend saw a picture of me with the car. Gotta love the classics.

And have you noticed how many TV commercials show cars from the 1960s? If they want to portray something as "cool" they more often than not show a '60s car.
