I liked that fish. South American Gar, (more precisely, he was a Pike Characin, not my photo but he looked like this) It had to be the Ornate Bicher, he's the only one big enough. It was cool to watch him hunt, and it was astounding how big a fish he could swallow. Sigh. Life in a predator tank, I suppose.

I'm currently keeping a 10-inch Florida gar, and formerly had him housed for quite a long time with a freshwater moray eel, maybe 14 or 15 inches long. Never had an issue with either of them attacking each other, amazingly. Though the gar did attack my hand the first (and only) time I tried to clean it without gloves.

Lovely fish, are they hard to come by? Most of my experience is with Cichlids.

Oppo Aquarists...UNITE! Although all my tanks but one are gone now...and it just has Mollies...I miss my ginormous cichlid tank. :(
