Hey! Volvo FH16! You're not a Scania, and you'll never be..
That's how i'll start the review if i had to do this review in Regular Car Review style. But now, let's do review in my normal style. And to be honest, i think the FH is better than a Scania in this game. And no, i'm not a Volvo man.
Exterior and History
Volvo make trucks?Yes, they're making trucks for quite a very long while now. I know some older Volvo trucks that i saw on the streets here in Indonesia, but personally in never saw this truck. Simply because this truck is brand new. The FH is introduced in 2013, and soon after it's introduction SCS put this truck as a free DLC, along with Iveco Stralis Hi-Way and Scania Streamline. That's something that we can thankful fo
The Volvo FH range has been around since the early nineties and since its launch has been a firm favourite with drivers. Its raked screen set it apart from the crowd and with varying level of trims available and cab enhanced interior dimensions, Volvo had another winner on its hands. But time moves on, and like all other manufacturers Volvo had many issues to take into consideration in order not to lose its way or lose its hard earned market share. Things like Euro emissions, efficiency, increased operating weights, and comfort on this FH is improved over the years.
This truck is very cheap, for 100k euro we can get satnav inside and decently powered engine. For the engine, it ranges from puny 320hp all the way to 750hp, but we'll talk about that later. Strange, This truck has several different colors, and the cheapest is blue. Go get the blue one if you like it and you want to save cash. The most expensive, is obviously the pale green one, just like normal volvo cars.
There seems to be a secret desire amongst truck manufacturers to have 'the most powerful truck on the road' and over the years they've all taken turns as they have tweaked power outputs. And i think it's no difference with us, gamers. So let's talk about the engine.
Engine and Driveterain
POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!
This truck is all about power. The engine, a massive 16.1l Inline-6 produce 750hp @ 1600-1800rpm. So if you bought the top model, the 750, power is not an issue for you.
So does the torque. It has 2740lb-ft (3350nm) of torque avaliable as low as 1050rpm. Couple that with 12-speed gearbox, this truck is quick. 0-60 takes a very quick 20 seconds (for truck, at least). And if you had the balls this truck will hit 100mph, even while carrying 25ton of diesel. But, remember to turn off the limiter in game's settings before hoon this truck, because i think it's waste of engine to drive this truck with limiter on.
Plus it's got a very efficient engine as well. I got an amazing 60.1l/100km in highway, 66.5l/100km in city. By a comparsion my MAN get a 69l/100km highway, 74.4l/100km in city, and that's despite the MAN has smaller engine and less power as well. Plus the truck get a massive 1400 litre fuel tank, so the range is not a problem as well.
The gearbox is a bit too short in the first 4 gears to be honest, you need to be quick or you'll hit the 2500rpm very easily, but the rest is fine. Nothing to complaint here.
Handling and Chassis
Handling..
Well, this section is a bit tricky. Simply because at low speed, the truck is very agile to move inside the city, so that's good and well. Until you put your foot down and went past 60mph.
When the truck past 60, the truck will feel a bit twitchy. and you'll start to feel the truck understeers as well, thanks to the soft suspension and heavy engine. Yes, it's understeers, despite it's an RWD.
Then you went past 70mph, and you'll feel the truck start to be unstable. Even when you carries the most stable load of them all, Diesels. You should plan your maneuver carefully, or the truck will underteers so bad and hit the wall, or worse, you'll get orloved!
There's 3 ways to prevent orloved from happening:
1. Since the truck has a really good brakes, you can step the brakes a bit, bring it to reasonable speed, and make the turn safely.
2. You also can lift your foot down, cautiously steer the truck very slowly, and there you go.
3. If you had the skillz, you keep your foot down, and steer the truck clear even more cautiously, assuming you're very good at approaching corners with warp speed and have balls made from titanium.
The brakes are really good and sharp. Even a tiny push is enough to bring the truck down to more reasonable speed. But i hate the air-brake system, which is very slow to refill the pressure inside the air-brake, so you had to wait for 3-4 minutes for the airbrake to refill before you can sets off. And oh, don't expect to do powerslides since it has electronic parking brake.
Let's have some pros and cons.
Pros
1. Cheap
2. This is the most powerful truck in this game. How cool is that?
3. Really Good brakes.
4. Huge fuel tank
5. Very efficient as well. Even when you drive it like a maniac.
6. Built-in Satnav
Cons
1. Twitchy behavior in high speed
2. Quite prone to orloved. Not as bad as Iveco, generally but worse than MAN and Scania.
3. Slow airbrakes
4. Sounds quite tiny, because Volvo didn't love noisy trucks.
5. Understeers pretty badly.

Excellent review, but there was one small mistake: The D16G engine is an Inline 6, not a V8.

This is my favourite truck in ETS 2.
I had always loved Scanias from the early days of ETS 1 (when they were called "Swift") right up until the 2013 FH's release in ETS 2. At first, I wasn't fond of the instrument panel, but the big, central speedometer grew on me. Since I shift manually, I still prefer a larger tach, but it's not bad.
It looks great, and I think it's the best-sounding engine in ETS. Maybe because I'm Canadian, where inline-6 engines are in virtually every rig on the highway, but the FH's engine sound is the most familiar (and thus most pleasing) to my ears. The North American model Volvo VN is also available with the Volvo D16 engine similar to the ones in the FH16 overseas.

Well, since the old days my favourite truck is a MAN.
The handling is awesome, the speed was good, and the gearbox just nice.
But still, i can't wait when they finish up the American Truck Simulator project, that's sounds awesome.

I'm not sure why the Volvo started doing it today, but this morning I suddenly found that if you take off the speed limiter and brake a bit while turning into corners, you can lose the rear of it (somewhat) and power-slide (to an extent...) Then you crash, but it's fun while it lasts! XD
Also, I think it just sounds quiet inside because of the incredible sound deadening...it's obnoxiously loud from the outside...
And yes, the air-brakes are really slow to recharge and it's somewhat annoying to have to hold up traffic and put on your blinkers just because your truck decides that it won't move until the air-brakes are filled...and the AI traffic never seems to go around you at a stoplight...

I find it to have hilarious amounts of brake oversteer in cities when slowing hard for intersections. get up past 60mph, mash those brakes and turn in, catch it oppo and apply throttle. it settles quickly tho, no oppo there :(

This review is written when I was stupid and drive the truck flat out anywhere, really.
With the mandatory 80kmh speed limiter I got 29-30km/l, easily.
