I am going to look at this tomorrow. It is a factory 1971 javelin 401 car. Yeah. I think I can get it for 2300 delivered. Seriously tell me why I shouldn't get it, as it is my dream car, and I may be a little blinded... Engine turns but doesn't run. (no starter)(Shouldn't engine alone sell for 2k?)

Well, you asked for us to tell you no, but reasonably I can't. It's a purple '71 AMC with dead paint, manky seats, big engine and a radio station sticker - it's such a cohesive and beautiful horribly wrong that it's a horribly right. Reason can and should have nothing to do with this.

Even IF there's rust and it's minimal (patch panels, etc) it's a steal.

if any parts are missing or no good your hosed. Little to no reproduction /replacement parts in the AMC world. Any patch panels will either have to created or probably a donor car. Very cool car but can become a money pit very quick due to prices if the parts that are available.

I can throw all the same shit at you my ex threw at me about my firebird; it's a waste of money, it's old, it's ugly, it's loud, it's not comfortable, it's ostentatious, it's unreliable, it smells bad.
You'll notice I said "my ex" about the girl and "my firebird" about the car, though, so you can see how convincing her arguments were.

I think her criteria would rule out every car I've ever owned, and my first motorcycle too.

I like it! If that radio station bumper sticker is period correct, you should totally leave it on!

If its the car you want and very hard to find, sometimes you have to just do it. I have bought a few cars in that condition and hired a detail shop to clean it up inside and out before I started pulling the engine etc. I hate starting with a filthy car, personal problem haha. The interior might not be too bad with a professional job, they can do some amazing things removing the layers of grime and then reconditioning. I would imagine this car is hard to get interior parts for, not exactly a Mustang with everything currently made. My son in law has his Z now and you can get anything which is always nice.

I'd say it looks pretty good!
The thing about the car is since it's not one of the 'popular' restoration candidates, parts are going to be rarer and more expensive than usual. Since it's in okay condition, you're going to have to make a choice. You can use a ton of money and time to get the right parts, or you're going to have to get creative. If you get creative, A RESTORATION JOURNAL IS A MUST. You have to keep track of which parts you used to substitute for stock and what you fabbed
Good luck! :)

Hahaha! So what's stopping you from moving south or at least traveling down to buy the car you want?

Then you have all the time you need to get a good education, find a good job and come south to buy the car of your dreams and best of luck with all that too.

Yeah, this should happen. I have an AMC project car as well, and it's been some good times. Also, Rock Auto is your friend.
