That's an easy fix, just put a receiver hitch back there.

If I'm not mistaken, F1 cars of that era didn't have seat belts, either.
Saying safety wasn't a concern at that time is pretty much an understatement.

With two motors, they were hoping it'd be fast enough that rear-end collisions wouldn't be much of an issue.

I remember reading the reasoning was drivers didn't want to be trapped in cars precisely because they'd catch fire all the time. Pick your poison I suppose.
