A report coming out of Japan indicates Mazda is busily developing the next performance-focused Mazdaspeed3.
Aimed squarely at the
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, the next Mazdaspeed3 will reportedly be powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv engine tuned to generate approximately 295 horsepower. Mazda recently ran into problems turbocharging the high-compression Skyactiv engine but an inside source told Japanese magazine
Holiday Auto
that engineers have solved the issue.
The 2.5-liter's power will be transferred to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, and a Skyactiv-Drive gearbox might be offered as an option. A track-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes on all four corners will keep the power in check.
Visually, the Mazdaspeed3 will wear a considerably more aggressive look than the stock Mazda3 thanks to a full body kit consisting of a deeper front bumper, side skirts, a trunk-mounted spoiler and an air diffuser integrated into the rear bumper. Large alloy wheels mounted on low-profile tires and a functional hood scoop will complete the sporty look.
The 3's interior will be upgraded with bucket seats for the front passengers, a meaty flat-bottomed steering wheel and Mazdaspeed-specific instrument cluster that will provide a full panoply of information about what is going on under the hood.

Oh my....my pants!
I've been completely set on picking up a used 2014 3hatch once they're readily available on the used market...but if this thing ever makes it to market with these specs I would never be able to be content with my car knowing THIS is out there.
Aiming at completely different clientele, I know - but this creates all kinds of lusty feelings in me.

I'm just stuck on the KEEP ALL THE CARS idea.
My dad wants to build a new building at the back of the property where our work is at. He wants to have nicer offices on the 2nd floor and car space on the first floor. If he does that then I'll definitely have to keep all the cars!

If he does build the space then this is what I'm thinking I would do to keep maintenance, registration and insurance costs down:
1. Buy cars I like and drive them until they hit 75K miles.
2. Once a car hits 75K miles I store it at the building with the fluids drained. I register it as non-op and move the insurance over to Haggerty.
3. Once the collection gets large I will rotate cars in and out of hibernation. When the car is taken out of hibernation it will need to be serviced and get active registration. I can drive it for a year before hibernating and then pick the next one to take out of hibernation.
This is the best way I can think of to have a decent size collection of modern and near-classic cars that I will keep until they become classics. It will be way too expensive to keep them all on active registration and maintain them all when each is only being used for a couple thousand miles a year since some maintenance tasks are time based and not mileage based.
Brian Silvestro
> Manuél Ferrari
05/21/2014 at 21:10 | 1 |
That's the best way to go about that it seems. This way all the cars still get driven, and aren't disgraced to a life of garage queen for the rest of eternity.
DO IT
Manuél Ferrari
> Brian Silvestro
05/21/2014 at 21:30 | 1 |
I will do it. It will take some time. But I will eventually have at least one car from each of these carmakers:
Alfa
Aston
Bentley
BMW
Chevy (Corvette)
Ferrari
Ford (GT)
Lamborghini
Maserati
Mercedes
Porsche
Even if I don't get one of each until I'm 60 it will still be a success!

"powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv engine"
I doubt that is true. From what I remember the concept behind skyactiv engines was to avoid turbocharging and achive effeciency via other methods. Also those engines have very high compression ratios = no good for turbos
