So, having a GF really interferes with your project car progress

Who knew? Anyway, this is what I've been working on.

I've decided against making up a gearbox mount for my beefier TR/saloon gearbox to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as I'm slightly suspicious as to the strength of the bolts holding the overdrive unit in place.

Instead, I've made up a bracket that'll bolt onto the existing mount point on the gearbox. This will mean having to cut the body shell back a little, but I'd need to do some anyway to get the overdrive unit to clear.

Kinja'd!!!

Initially, I planned to use the mounts I'd made for the previous location, but I remembered I had a TR6 mount I had ordered a while back and thought that they would be a lot better suited than my ones.

This is it all mocked up in place:

Next up is making some little brackets to weld onto the chassis with some captive nuts to bolt the whole shebang in place :)

Wait until you have kids. Took me a year just to reinstall the interior in my Alfa!

Technically as I'm working on an old British car it should read 'he's only still here because it wouldn't start' :)

A buddy of mine's wife divorced him over his obsession with cars. The funny thing (sad thing?) is he now engaged to a woman who dumped her last husband because the spent too much time and money on his MGs. Personally I think he's got self destructive tendencies.

So much this. My Cobra sat in the garage for a year and a half due to bad vibration that had to be trouble shot. I have a feeling my legacy's bad clutch will sit even longer.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a wise decision.

My plan is to either find someone who is just as obsessed, convert someone or find someone who simply has sympathy.

I don't think I'd have much time for someone who hasn't got much time for my passions :)

Get her to come down to the garage with you, even if it's just to hang out while you work.

my wife says she doesn't understand my obsession, but agrees that it's fine for us to have our own interests. That and on warm summer days she loves to ride in Fiat spider.

That's what I'd be aiming for with this girl :)

If I can convert her then good times. She's already displayed an interest in an Aston DB6 (worrying for my wallet) and an OG Mini (much better).

That's a brilliant idea :) especially if I'm doing something visually impressive like angle-grinding or welding

Angle grinding might be a bit noisy to have a chat while you do it :)

Unless she's really into old-school German industrial, in which case she can just rock out for a minute.

Good point. Perhaps I'll rope her into helping with something more mechanical and intricate, or painting.

Actually, definitely painting. That takes bloody ages on your own.

Oh yeah, painting's a good'un. Sanding, too. And greasing. Anything where you can *ahem* help her clean up afterwards...
