I found this house last night while out for a run, and I've been buzzing with excitement ever since. Looks like a garden-variety Passat and Touareg, right? Nope. That's a Passat W8 and a Touareg V10 TDI . Holy shit! I wanted to knock on the door and find out who this mysterious VW nut is, but I didn't know if that would be weird.

Doesn't matter you have a Phaeton. You have that privilege.

Lead with handing them a business card, that would make it completely normal.
The lack of shoes....that's going to be a crapshoot.

How is this guy not living on the street yet? I keed I keed. But seriously, I would not mind having those for my wife and I. Maybe one day :)

It isn't weird! Do it! And tell me about it. This seems to be a good start of my dream garage.

just ask your local VW mechanic, he will be sure to know who they are. Hell he might be in there having a home cooked dinner

if you showed up in the Phaeton, it wouldn't be weird.

You run barefoot?
![]() 05/21/2014 at 09:28 |

He will be broke in a matter of days, I've owned a W8, run away.

Haha, I kinda had the same thought. I almost went to the door, but wondered if the bare feet might make them think I was a crazy person.

Yessir. Started with trail running, and now I do 5K's too. Usually I'm the only barefoot runner out there, but occasionally I will see another.

I'm thinking I might leave a nice note and my business card on the windshield, or maybe in the mailbox. It seems less confrontational than walking up unannounced. I dunno, what do you think?

I saw one at my half marathon in April... I thought of him later when I noticed some broken glass on the course.

I wonder what's in the closed side of the garage. an even crazier VW perhaps. lol

Hehe, this made my day!

From what I could see, there was something under a tarp in there. I'm really curious!

1. Roll up in the Phaeton
2. Park in plain sight of the doorway
3. Wear shoes :(
4. ???
5. Profit!

lol I thought you would be intimately familiar with this, x2

When you run barefoot regularly (or run in those crazy minimalist shoes), you train your eye to pick out surface hazards. And with time, you hopefully build a thick enough callus that nothing short of a nail is going to break the skin. But like most things in life, there is a certain amount of risk involved, yes.

Yeah I've heard there are many benefits to running barefoot, it really forces you to have a perfect foot strike or your heels will be bleeding from poor form.

What do you think would be a better strategy (or less weird)? Actually showing up at the house, or leaving a friendly note and business card tucked under the wiper?

If you show up in person, he'll see your Phaeton and have a volkgasm.
Then, he'll be more likely to show you the cars.

When weighing the risks of running, the chance of bleeding heels from poor form seems so much better than bleeding heals from broken glass your un-trained eye missed before you get tetanus.

That is impressive.

The owner is likely your coworker, or a masochoist.
![]() 05/21/2014 at 10:10 |

why must you run barefoot vs minimal shoe? so many pebbles.
![]() 05/21/2014 at 10:15 |
|
Because the pebbles don't bother me. :)
Plus, those shoes are expensive, cause blisters, and are an all-around hygiene nightmare!
![]() 05/21/2014 at 10:26 |

All of that is bullshit. Running barefoot is not any better than wearing shoes. Its all confirmation bias and placebo affect. Which I guess means it does work, if you believe it will.

My girlfriend has pretty much convinced me that my first eventual restoration will be a thing.

Right...the bare feet. :P

Im thinking about what would I do. But it is too stalkery. For example: waiting for either to go out to their cars and "casually" meeting them. But no, haha I think the note would be perfect, but I would make sure to state their good taste in cars. Any updates, keep me updated please .

It would be such a fun project. I would rock it with no doors. or rock crawler style tube doors

We saw a fully restored on a few years ago on a pier down the Cape (Massachusetts) and I had no idea what it was but she became obsessed with it. It grew on me rather quickly.
