Some hit high, some hit low. Where do your engines hit max torque?
I'll list all of mine at my house.
Saturn Vue:
3.6L LY7 V6: 248 ft/lbs at 2100 RPM
Chevrolet Silverado:
5.3L LM7 V8: 330 ft/lbs at 4000 RPM
GMC Safari:
4.3L L35 CPI V6: 260 ft/lbs at 3600 RPM

Seeing all these V6s that get their power in the 3k to 4k range, I'm thinking the 2100 RPM availability in the Vue is a really great thing.

Oh yeah, you have to rev it to really be moving. Once you are past 4k though, the curve is pretty flat, til about 7k where it starts to fall.
The Benz is surprisingly fast, and it is so easy to gain that speed too, unlike the FRS.

You must have to lean into that pedal pretty hard to get that thing really moving.
I was shocked when I learned the Vue has all the torque available at 2100 RPM, but it makes sense if you saw how easy that thing will burn (front) rubber.

Yeah.
The crown is never make any tire noise, since it's an auto and the torque is low. This is because Toyota wants to mimic how Rolls-Royce sets off.
But my old W140 S600L, that thing is mental. 428lb-ft @ 3800rpm, hell yeah.

It wasn't done with the effect of lowering HP in mind, but whatever. The 2005 HEMI engines would fire one spark plug on the power stroke, while firing the opposite cylinder during it's down stroke for a re-burn of the gases. It was meant to improve emissions, but it also increased horsepower.
I put on different spark plug wires that essentially fire both plugs at the same time, so there's no spark on the downstroke for a re-burn anymore. The HP gained from the re-burn is very little as said by a chrysler engineer, so the new wires to essentially clean up the engine bay removed between 1-3HP. Luckily, my CAI gave me 21, so it balanced itself out, and I still came out on top.

The exact location where it hits peak is misleading if the torque curve is very flat (or un-flat). I think we need a new standardized metric: the rpm range where you have 90% torque (doesn't have to be 90, but something around there).
Knowing an engine has 400 lbs-ft at 4000 rpm is much less info than knowing it does 90% of 400 lbs-ft from 1200-6000 vs. 4000-7000.

Alfa 156 2.5l V6
164lb-ft at 5000rpm
However, I've always thought that peak torque was utterly misleading. It's useful as a ballpark figure, but what's more useful is torque spread across the most common rpm band.
For instance, you could have a petrol engine that makes 200lb-ft at 4500rpm, but makes at least 160lb-ft from 2000-7000rpm.
Similarly, you could have a diesel that produces 200lb-ft at 3000rpm, but it only produces 160lb-ft from 2000-4000rpm.
The second car would be slightly nicer to pootle around in, but as soon as you put the hammer down it'd feel gutless.
My Alfa feels just as, if not slightly more meaty than my E36 325i (181lb-ft at 4700).
That could be something to do with gearing (Alfa has 6, BMW 5 and similar gear limit so the Italian is closer geared), but it's never felt lacking compared to similar cars with a higher peak torque figure at lower rpm.

02 530i - 220 lb-ft @ 3,500 rpm
And my new car, for which I paid a whopping $200, a 94 Corolla 1.8 makes 115 lb-ft at unknown RPM. You can feeeeeeel all that torque when you throw that shifter around. Vroooooom lol
