It always fascinates me to see how differently the Americans and Russians solve the same problem.

We seem to lean toward the German way of over engineering that works fine, but we are like "no way." so instead of a simple train we build a giant ass moving platform (powered by engines from locomotives) so we can transport the craft upright to the launch tower.

I'm bet a multitude of differences were down to nothing more than a case of "I can't believe they're doing it that way! Clearly that way is wrong and we must come up with an idea that is completely different and therefore superior!" Once either side was informed by their intelligence communities about the way challenges were being tackled.
Not that there weren't clear, intractable problems with many Soviet programs, however it is intriguing to think what would have been built had the Soviet's had our economy.
