Do you think we'll see a V8 Camry or Accord any time soon?

V6's keep getting bigger and bigger, and Honda and Toyota are usually anti-turbo except in their most sporty models (and Honda has only sold one factory turbo in the US—the original RDX), would a V8 engine be available in either any time soon?

And of course, each platform's many derivatives (Highlandser, Harrier/RX, Sienna, Ody, Pilot, MDX, and more)

They will soon pass the 4.0L mark, and nothing against 4L+ V6's, of course, but maybe it might be time for a V8 in them.

Not in a million years will this ever, ever, ever happen. No.

I dunno, because the Japanese makers seem to be just as against V8s as they are against turbos. I think they are more likely to go inline-6 than V8.

No.

But I hope I'm wrong.

My guess is that they'll eventually go turbo

Inevitably. Everything is going to go turbo, simply because it's the best way to improve fuel economy without building an entirely new engine platform from scratch.

I think there's a bigger chance there's a turbo-4 before they turbo-6 the Camry and the Accord.

I love engines with small cylinders. I don't even care if they're powerful or not. Toyota needs to make a sub 4L N/A V8. It would be reliable like the Lexus V8s and sound awesome with after market exhaust.

Kinja'd!!!1

And because you can trick the regulators with it!

If you stay off the boost the engine will be very efficient. But if you're always putting your foot down then it won't necessarily be more efficient than a larger N/A engine.

No. You won't see a v8.

Turbo 4's are the way of the future. Honda and Toyota can stick to v6's cause people owning them don't care about new tech.

But...N/A engines also have the gearing trick to do the same thing!

True. That's why we're starting to see 9 speed automatics, haha.

I don't get why more companies don't develop cylinder deactivation. Nobody is screaming bloody murder about the C7 having it.

Well, those that don't have it seem to have automatic start/stop instead. At least, I know Audi does it. I think Mercedes does as well. Do Porsche and BMW?

Well, in japan Toyota has Supercharge their Camry and make it RWD plus 6-speed manual, called Mark X.

They'll keep V6.

Unless Camry buyer wants something sporty, but that's very unlikely.

I think all of the luxury car makers have auto start / stop now.

The C7 can get 40 MPG in 7th gear when coasting on a flat highway!

Seeing as how Honda doesn't seem to even make a V8, I am going to say no. Even assuming they did develop one, they'd also have to make the Accord be rear or all wheel drive as well. Which they don't do either. That and despite the Accord being quick, thats not what the customer base cares about.

Imagine if GM built a mini version of the Corvette. Same idea but more Miata-sized with a pushrod N/A V6 with cylinder deactivation. It would probably hit 50 MPG highway while cruising in 7th!

I say boo-hiss to the V6 idea, but I'm all-ears if they decide to make another inline-6 and call it the Blue Flame II. That said, I would love if they made a miniature version of the Corvette. In fact, the Corvette is being brought down by its association with Chevrolet and if it went independent, it could be much better and also allow an excuse to build a "Boxster" Corvette.

However, taking the Corvette away from Chevrolet would also be a dick move. Can't have it all, I guess.

Die painfully okay? Prefearbly by getting crushed to death in a

garbage compactor, by getting your face cut to ribbons with a

pocketknife, your head cracked open with a baseball bat, your stomach

sliced open and your entrails spilled out, and your eyeballs ripped

out of their sockets. Fucking bitch

Mini Corvette with an inline 6 sounds awesome to me!

It shall be MT only, all aluminum, and weigh a little under 3000 lbs

I actually find it funny that SMC weighs more per volume than aluminum. The Corvette will never go aluminum, though, because being plastic is what the car is all about.

Kinja'd!!!0

Sorry I meant the chassis, not the panels. But glad it came up as I didn't know that SMC weighs more per volume than aluminum. So SMC panels are actually heavier than aluminum? Or are they thinner and weigh less despite being heavier by volume?

Kinja'd!!! Axial > Manuél Ferrari
05/22/2014 at 01:18

Kinja'd!!!1

They are actually thicker to get the desired strength, so they weigh more all around. Still less than steel, though.
