Good idea or not: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and some other components (like outfitting the interior and other things for a manual transmission, since the car is an automatic), into !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I don't have the money or skills to do this, but if someone wanted to do exactly this, would it work and would it be a smart idea?

I was about to say "there's no way you're fitting a flat 6 in a 944 engine bay," but then I found this photo. It's a tremendously stupid idea, though.

I would say that if you do not have the skills or time it would be very expensive to pay someone else.

For the amount of time and money you would need to put into it, why not just put an LS1 in it

It's pretty damn expensive, requires a bit of custom fabrication, some custom parts, and a 951 transmission. I remember researching it a bit because this is what I want to do when the engine goes on my 944, I think out the door it would be around 15,000 dollars, if you had the renegade hybrid guys do it.

I'd imagine the Cayman S engine would be lighter, being a Flat-6 instead of a big V8.

The idea wouldn't be a 1/4 mile car, but a track day/time trial car.

A lighter engine with not much less power would probably be better for the purpose than an LS1 swap, I'd assume.

I mean, torque isn't everything.

Well, I don't know how much the Flat-6 weighs, but I have heard the LS1 is lighter, due to it being an aluminum block, then the stock 944 engine, because it's a cast iron block. And you are already at 2700 pounds, with a near perfect weight ratio.

If you are doing it for track days and all that, you've already got a superb car for the curves, the problem with the 944 is it's lacking in power and it has expensive parts, with an LS1 you solve both problems, with another Porsche engine you still have the expensive parts.
