No, not like that!
It's always been a dream of mine, ever since I discovered the junkyard known as Craigslist. I'd love to buy a (relatively) intact car for EXTREMELY cheap (~$500), put a few bucks and some elbow grease into it, take a test drive or two, and sell it on for (hopefully) a little change. I'm finally living on my own this summer in STL and would love to do this as a little summer side project.
Has anyone done this sort of thing? If so, how did it go? Any tips?

yes. watch a bunch of Wheeler Dealers episodes. Think about popularity of colour for retail, and popular vehicles. Avoid getting somethign you love as a jalop but other will hate. Dont modify for performance, modify for looks and reliability. Be willing to wait for the price you want.
Or, as is my usual approach, disregard above, buy and modify for your own desires and drive it as your main daily driver for a year or so, aim to keep the budget for ownership under $200/month and you get a hobby and daily driver for less than a new car payment.

Look up the tag "art of the flip" for posts by apidaonline.com. They're glorious, but your want to flip will increase ten fold

Ive been doing it for 6-7 years, have flipped 25+ car and motorcycles. You need yo be careful on what you buy, you WILL lose money on some cars if you're not careful. The absolute easiest cars to buy and sell are Honda civics. Stay away from VW's. People like cheap and reliable, heat and A/C are a must. I price my cars to cash deals. Depending on the economy, usually under $5,000 for newer cars and under $3000 for 10+yo Cars. I have sold ///M cars for $15k+, but your car better Goodwood good.
