I see them a lot on stance cars. . . I don't quite understand.

Mod happy owners. That's what. Just one more piece to add to their car. personally I think they are hideous.

That must have taken the driver literally days to get home.

"I don't quite understand" This phrase applies to all aspects of stanced cars for me...

THAT'S RIGHT I DON'T UNDERSTAND!?!? DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND!!!

He actually never got home. His car is still there.

It's because they're mad tyte JDM style y0!

they just have different tastes that we as car enthusiasts need to appreciate. don't be a hater bro!
![]() 05/19/2014 at 12:53 |

I wasn't hating! Although I do think they look kind of ugly. . . so I guess I am hating.

Well I mean, I don't get it either, but this REALLY doesn't make sense, unless they really want to block the rain.

Is it one of those, started in the US, taken over by JDM, then the US crowd copying the JDM crowd copying the US crowd. . .

Helps get the window up into the frame...you know to get that right amount of fitment

nah I'm just kidding stance is for retards
![]() 05/19/2014 at 12:59 |

I think stance came from the "VIP" car scene which was japanese but I could be wrong

That ride height could actually be a little functional on the track. Unfortunately, as per usual, there is more camber on the rears than the fronts (big no no) and has those stupid window guard things.

I just remember from many years ago in ancient history times of the early '00s, people would order any and every part they could find from JDM suppliers, down to the rain guards, because they were JDM.
While you would see the occasional motor-swapped Civic with them, it was most popular in the VIP Style scene, which is a particularly JDM-happy crowd, where people are like "dude bro check out the sweet JDM Toyota Celsior window visors I got for my 1st gen Lexus LS400."
So, stance draws a lot of its big lip rims, stretched tires and dumped ride height from those VIP style cars (but on stuff more diverse than big slightly anonymous Japanese luxo barges) and the window visors come along for the ride sometimes. Even if they're just some dealer accessory or Pep Boys bullshit.

so are rain guards just hated? I've had them and I was considering them for my WRX (not stanced) I like to crack the window and not get wet in the rain.

gotta helicopter it in bro. Don't want to drive it and get the paint dirty.

Not hated, just questioned about why they seem to be on every stanced car. I rarely see them when I got autocrossing or to car shows.

I wasn't sure if they get the same kind of love as stick-on hood scoops. I don't know if they help or hurt the look of the car but they are pretty useful.

Ugh, not that bullshit line again. You know what I hate? The "we should appreciate all parts of the larger car enthusiast whole" crock of shit.
If someone likes a particular kind of car or style of modification, they're under no obligation to appreciate some other motherfucker's sense of style, just because "we're all part of the kumbaya car guy club."
This line has been used as long as people have been picking and choosing what parts of car culture they like. Somebody likes F1 but not NASCAR, someone else is like "but it's all racing, you should like NASCAR!" Somebody likes American muscle cars, someone else is like "but we'e all car guys here, you should appreciate this hopped up Civic." And on and on we go. I like fried chicken, my preachy vegan sister is all like "but we both love food, you should appreciate the kale chips I love so much."
Just like people are entitled to have different tastes, people are entitled to say someone else's taste is goddamned fucking horrible. People don't have to agree all the time. Fuck kale chips.

98% of the Subaru crowd does it just because it's JDM. 1% of the Subaru crowd does it because they actually smoke. The other 1% do it because they are too lazy to change the cabin air filter, so they just get fresh air by cracking the windows, and at highway speeds the visors reduce the wind noise drastically
![]() 05/19/2014 at 13:15 |

no on oppo we're not allowed to bash cars we don't like we have to just appreciate the work they've done to them. Even if said work consists of a budget of 25 dollars and various zip ties

The difference between the stick on hood scoops is that rain guards have a function.

They are closer to puddles so they want to avoid splashes.

I've been wanting to get some for mine for a while. On the right car they look good, and being able to open the window a bit without crap flying in would be nice.

I've noticed they're useful for car camping. You can keep your windows cracked and no one could tell as well as keeping you dry.

It's less about appreciation and more about respect. For the most part Opponauts respect scenes.
Playful joking is allowed, obviously.
What I find hilarious is that offroadkarter, a proponent of this ideology, has made multiple homophobic remarks directed at people with differing tastes. And threw a marvelous fit when I poked fun at drag racing.
