It had a 'JDM Slut' sticker in the rear window, and had been lowered so much that it could only go over speed bumps at about two miles per hour.

There's one on my street with a ridiculous fart can, body colour matched cheapo wheels and creases all over the rear quarter where a huge dent was badly popped out. Damn boy racers trashing decent cars.

Man, I hate it when cool cars are ruined in the name of stance. Worst example incoming.

If it had a widebody kit, you could call it a case of "swollen Glanz(a)"

Yup. More than anything else, I've never understood the obsession with excessive lowering; if, in modifying your car, you make it so that a base 1.1l Peugeot 106 can actually get stuck behind you on certain roads, then what's the bloody point?

Okay, that's just offensive. Sometimes I think there should be background checks for certain cars, with taste being a key qualifier. How could someone do that to an NSX?

Exactly, and lets be honest most cars they lower look terrible. Lowering a rusty 1999 1 litre corsa isn't going to make it look any better. Polishing a turd and all that. The funny thing is they think they genuinely look good and are quick, which makes them drive and act like arseholes.

They do, and it can make used car shopping - if you're interested in a model that attracted that crowd - utter hell. I've been looking around for decent 106 GTis for ages now, and it's all but impossible to find one that hasn't at the very least had the suspension fucked with.

Tell me about it, I'm still car shopping at the moment. I clicked on an ad for a cheap Seat Arosa that looked clean at first glance. Looked closer at the side view and it was touching the floor and the owner had proudly wrote "cut springs" in the description. Nope, nope, nope. He hadn't even changed the tiny stock steelies for some decent wheels so it looked especially hilarious.

Have you looked into the 106 rallye? Everytime I see one of those they look pretty clean and looked after, not sure if they go for higher money because of that though. I don't think I've ever seen a stock 106 GTI.

That's how it goes. I get the feeling a lot of people don't realise how much of a turn off modifications can be, going by the way some of those descriptions are written.

Rallyes tend to look clean, but they've almost always had significant work done underneath - they're very popular with actual racers, and as such get caged and fitted with uprated suspension and all manner of engine stuff - and they're extremely rare besides.

The Rallyes - the original 1.3 S1, and the 1.6 S2 - are actually my favourite 106s, but those few in decent shape that haven't been turned into race cars go for absolutely crazy money. They're fast becoming modern classics.

Fair enough, at least they're being used properly if they're being tracked, better that than cut springs and a halfords "cold" air intake. Good luck finding a good GTI anyway, I'm finding how much car shopping sucks among older cars because of mods. Hopefully we both find something decent...

As do I. Still considering a 106?

Yeah they're high on my list but at this point I'm considering most things in decent condition that fit my price range. There aren't as many 106s as I thought there would be for sale around here, the nearest is a diesel with 160'000 miles in not so great condition.

Ooooh yeah, best not. They don't have as good an image, and the interior's a little nattier, but keep in mind that the Citroen Saxo is essentially the same car wrapped in an uglier body.
