Find another model specific forum. There are many about. Some are so far up their own arses they haven't seen daylight since they got their car keys and some make you question why you never found the group earlier because they are awesome.

It's a Jeep forum for what is probably the most hated "Jeep" on the planet. The guys there are pretty cool usually, but pretty conservative and defensive over their choice to drive a JINO (Jeep In Name Only), and that's not me. I tend to be a thread closer (I'm usually the last guy to say anything, then everyone else shuts up and move to a different thread). Which to me, it feels like, is the equivalent of standing in a conversation, I throw out a clever quip or random fact, and everyone else heads for the ice chest or the snack table. I swear I don't have Aspbergers in real life, tho.
Just told everyone my shitbox is in the shop getting its rear main seal replaced; expected some "aww shucks" or "best of luck", got nothing at all.
Jesus H. Christ, am I menstruating or something?!

Hahaha! Nope, worse... a Patriot.
I've said it on here before: for what it is, it's a good car (emphasis on "car"). It's a hatchback with 8"+ clearance. It's a FWD, 5-speed with a decent-sized motor, and it can occasionally tackle a fire road or unpaved trail without much drama. It can haul a decent amount of stuff even with the rear seats up. More fun that a Corolla, cheap as dirt, and about 25mpg.
But my forum-mates are insistent on redefining what a "real Jeep" is, so as to include the Patriot & Compass. But of course, once the images of the Renegade came out, no sir, THAT is where we draw the line! Some guys liked it; some guys went apeshit and gave the impression that they'd rather die in a Hon-duh built by chinky-eyed Japs than that I-talian load of crap, fix-it-again-Tony, Euro-homo wagon, because 'Murican-made is the only way, and blah blah blah, you get my drift...
One guy there is really cool. His Patriot is absolutely slammed. He's running about -6" static drop over stock, and he just had his muffler welded shut for the 3rd time. Another member in Australia is running a similar stance, and nobody gives these guys shit, because they've actually done the work. May I just say, a lowered Patriot looks good in the same way that a lowered Forester looks good.
Just today a guy posted a pic of his Patriot with the "signature" 7-slot grille chopped out and a big mesh in its place. Oh lawdy, you'd think the guy had just crucified Jesus himself. Words like "iconic" and "heritage" and "legacy" are so prevalent on that forum, and its so sad because it's just a re-dressed Dodge Caliber, guys... If you bought it because it's a "Jeep", then I have a really nice bridge to sell you.
I don't begrudge anyone their choices; if they made the choice to buy the Patriot, good on them - I just got mine used because I'm poor as fuck. I like it for the most part, and I think I lucked out finding it. But the flag-waving, brand loyalty is just pathetic.
Then again, if you're in a room of people and can't identify the asshole, you might just be the asshole...
