I spent a few years being a service adviser, trying to convince people that driving on tires like the one pictured is really dangerous.

"Ah, I can get through the summer on these tires, they're fine!"

Severe aquaplaning makes driving so much more fun though.

because RACECAR

Actually I see it all the time. Vigilante justice with a screwdriver to the sidewall would be ok in my book. My safety is concerned here too

Not only is it as bald as a baby's ass, but it's got uneven wear. Out of alignment, and no grip.

I usually think it boils down to two things, lack of money, or don't give a shingle shit. I can understand the lack of money. But it is when people don't care that bothers me. These rolling timebombs surround you and you never know when one will fail and you get involved in an accident or get stuck in severe traffic because of this.

I was washing my car two months ago when I heard the distinctive sound of someone driving on a flat tire.

I turned around to see my neighbor, who I have never talked to in the past six months, drive down the street and pull into his driveway across from me. He sat in his car a little while (possibly wondering why I was watching him) before getting out and walking to his front door.

I walked over towards the street.

"Excuse me?"

He turns.

"Are you aware that your rear passenger side tire is flat and you're riding on the wheel?" (dumb question, I know)

"Um...really? Where?"

I point.

"Oh. Didn't know that."

I offered to help him change it if he needed and to let me know. I was outside finishing my car for another hour before I figured he didn't care or forgot. It was flat until the next day. Probably drove it to the Sullivan Tire a mile away... -_-

It's usually the latter.

Wear bars are there to provide forward grip, sort of like a paddle tire.

To be fair... Right now, my right rear is down past the wear bars, and the left rear is almost there. Unfortunately, the tires won't be in until Friday, so I'm driving to work like that, this week.

Wear bars are one thing, cords sticking out is another.

Things like this are the reason I maintain that mandatory, yearly, pass/fail inspection is a good thing. (We'll ignore the assholes who use inspection time as an excuse to milk ignorant saps for unnescarry repairs for the moment...)

My front aren't quite that bad, but the cords are starting to show. :-/ the rears are pristine though. Why? Bad alignment from a bad shop. Ne tires next week after I get paid.

These were the tires I replaced on my MR2 a few months ago. They came with the car in November 2012, and the rear was running -1.5deg camber.

Kinja'd!!!

The new tires and wheels I got were such a massive improvement, both in road noise and grip, especially in the wet.

No, no. They were new when I got the car, this picture was post replacement.
