So even after everything that has transpired, I'm still dreading telling him about my interviews. Maybe I'm afraid he'll fire me on the spot, maybe I still care too much about what he thinks. Either way, he's still gonna fire me so I need to find other work.

From my experience, I would hold off telling your boss until you're putting in your 2 week's notice. That way, you're still employed and you're somewhat in control of the situation.

The only thing you need to tell him is when you're quitting, not a day before.

Man, your boss sounds like a nightmare.
If he's going to fire you, and you've got a job lined up I'd personally resign before he gets to firing you. That's just me though.
Good luck man!

Okay, he has actually come out and said he is planning on firing you? Document the times he says this. If he's not documenting any sort of issues he's having with you, then you can take the information to a higher up.
Unless this is one of those places where the higher up doesn't care. At that point, you need to start singing "this is how we glue it" any time you're near a stick substance of any kind.

He's told me I'm going to get my 60 days due to looking elsewhere. I just haven't gotten it on paper yet from him.

He already knows I'm leaving (its a whole thing, its been posted here) so now it's just getting out before my 60 days is up.

He already knows I'm leaving. But I guess at this point I shouldn't make it any worse.

Unless he already knows when you're leaving and where you're going, you can only hurt yourself by talking to him.

Good point. "Appointments" it is!

Always better to resign than get fired. What do you do, btw? You need not be specific about the company. Just in general.

If he fires you, (I'm assuming) you'll get a severance package and unemployment until you get a new job. If he knows you're planning to leave, he's not going to fire you. It's so hard to fire somebody in the corporate world anyway, never mind someone who's planning in quitting.

I'm in software sales. I tried to switch over to the tech team, the transfer got denied. Then my boss told me I had the option of looking elsewhere as long as I kept coming in and working. But the second I had my first interview, he took me in the office and gave me my verbal notification that he's giving me my 60 days. That should be coming any day now.

I'm getting PIP'd first (performance improvement program) which basically gives me 60 days. I'm not sure how much severance it removes them from having to pay out, but I'm sure its better than a straight out layoff or firing. Which means that he fucks me an extra thrust.

Sounds like something to ask HR about.
