"A few things generally prevent us from recommending a car of American origin, and chief among them is usually the interior plastics. "
Is it me or does that sound petty as hell. I can understand if the interior is ugly but slightly hard or tough plastics? I don't make love to dashboards (much) so I don't know why European car magazines have such a boner for soft touch plastics. It's not like you contact them much or anything.

BECAUSE EVERYTHING MUST BE SOFT AND CUSHY.
I hate the soft-touchiness of everything now. I should not be able to press a hand-print onto a dashboard it's so soft.

Those soft foamy dashboards are the first to melt in the sun and get covered in dents from day to day use. All that and they slightly raise the cost of the car, all for something you barely ever notice.

I wonder how they feel about the Volvo S60 interior?

"The S60 is instead characterised by simple, effective design flourishes, such as the sweep of satin chrome trim that neatly makes a highlight of the interior door handles. Substantial and tactile but tastefully underplayed materials also feature, as does a pragmatic emphasis on comfort and ease of use."
They like it apparently.

Then they're jackasses, blinded by a Eurocentric attitude towards vehicles and, most likely, everything else. They are probably the kind of people that would say Elvis was an overrated hack that got famous from whipping his junk around.
If the Volvo S60 interior is perfectly acceptable, but a throwback American vehicle is crap because it uses the same basic materials, then screw 'em.

Yep the UK auto mags are biased as hell.

Yes, it appears so. Can't wait to hear what they think of the CTS-Vsport once they test drive it.

They seem to like the base model cts from their review. Maybe it's just certain reviewers...

I just read their Camaro review in it's entirety. Funny how they compare it to a Jaguar, yet price compare to a 370Z(ed).

Yeah I think they liked the car overall, says a lot about the value of american cars. I'm not personally a fan of the looks of the camaro but a 400hp v8 with reasonable handling at 35k is a steal. Unfortunately it'll never sell here even if they made it RHD just because of the stigma attached to american cars.

I love the S60 but that has to be one of the most unnecessarily intense pieces of interior appreciation I've ever read.

They're still cross about 1776.

Welcome to UK car reviews, when they find a car with a really soft dashboard the appreciation becomes almost sexual.

Oh for crying out loud.
Why would I care about quality when it looks as good as this? I love the retro gauges. I especially love those little dials in front of the shifter. In fact, the only things that could be improved in that interior would be more blue lighting and maybe a shiner shifter. But that's just me...

But but, soft touch plastics. I need to be able to use my dash as a pillow.

Why would they drive one? I recall that not a single Cadillac was sold to a private buyer in the UK last year so it's not as if their readers are beside themselves wondering what they're like.

Probably for the same reason why the test drove a left hand drive Camaro: because it's for sale in the UK.
