Column shifted automatics are alright.
My 3 speed torqueflight is a good automatic too. It's cable driven and was designed to allow for push starting. I would love a manual in this car but I'm happy with what I have. And I can choose to stay in lower gear if I want to so it's basically 3 on the tree without a clutch.

If it's going to be an automatic. It's got to be done right. That means column shift.

So my car is doing it correctly? Yay :D I always did think that faux-manual floor-shifted autos were kinda poser

2/3 cars at my house are column shifters. Swag.
Why that's the only picture I have of my gear indicator, I don't know.

In planning future projects for my '74 Buick Apollo, I thought about converting to a manual. Then I went, "Nah, it's a Buick, the column shifter must stay."

My newest acquisition is the best of both worlds! Column shifted with 3 pedals!
(I do believe that's the first and probably only time somebody's said the 3-on-the-tree was the best of anything)
