Cuz its ma birfday!!!!!! This birthday was a particularly tough one for me. I ended a relationship with the girl I planned on marrying, I'm not happy with where I am in my career, and I've finally made the realization that I have not been happy in the last decade. However, I made pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina about a month ago and that's when I decided to try to reconnect with friends, get back looking out for myself rather than the douches I work for, and try to travel and/or leave my environment where I could really get out of my comfort zone. I'm waiting to hear back from a company I interviewed for, though I might take a potential offer to work in Kurdistan (possibly I-banking or equity analysis). If all else fails, I might do my trading certificate and teach English abroad (I'm thinking Korea, Japan, or the Gulf Arab countries). Part of me thinks I'm too old for this but another part of me sees the importance of getting out of my comfort zone to really grow. I really really wish I did this when I was 25 but c'est la vie... Anyway, above is my friend's new BRZ... enjoy!!!!

30 is awesome. 30 is when you're no longer expected to be "cool" and you can officially stop giving a shit about all the crap the youths are into these days.

It's incredibly liberating to be out of the loop of what's hip.

Welcome to Over 30! Truth, it gets better. I had a couple really rough years after turning 30, but now that I'm about to turn 36 I've got a job I love (and that pays well), a nice apartment, a sweet car, and at least I'm still friends with the woman I still wish I was marrying... ok, so the love life part is still a drag, but the rest of it is pretty awesome. 3o's OK man, you'll be good ;)

I had that same fear when I turned 30. Five years on I'm happier day by day that I've devoted these years to doing what I want to and what makes me feel like I'm doing right by the world. I've driven better things the whole time too. Happy birthday! Enjoy it.

Don't sweat it, 30 is nothing! I know many people in their 30s making big life changes and loving it. I think once you pass 30 people stop expecting you to behave a certain way (teenagers, fresh out of college newbies etc.) and respect your decisions.

Sounds like you're making some great changes in your life trying to remove yourself from toxic environments, and expanding your horizons. That's what life is all about - learning and improving. As long as you're doing that, I'd say you're living life to the fullest.

Happy Birthday!

ps - I have a friend who did a lot of English teaching in those regions too (I want to say he went to Korea, Thailand, and Oman) - think it was a great experience for him. Sounds like there are some sketchy "opportunities" and schools where the students might be less than excited to learn - but if you vet your options well and find a good opportunity it sounds like a great choice.

Happy Birthday! I had the exact same life story when I was 22. Ironically, I'm about to lose my second real girlfriend (probably tonight or tomorrow). You're doing it right man!

Seriously, now's your chance to do anything you like with no one holding you back and a chance to keep trying new things. Last time I did what you did: Went traveling, got a new job and got in shape).

Happy Birthday, and its amazing that you have completed pilgrimage. Hopefully it helps make the next years more worthwhile and successful. Hajj is a great turn around point in life.

Happy Birthday. Treat yourself. And you are not too old, shit, I've seen people in their 50s completely change their lives. Some people finish schooling when their almost 30. You have endless opportunities, honestly. Buy some nice beer, take a trip to a good race, meet a girl, get laid, and enjoy yourself. (Note, step 4 is never as easy as it sounds, unless you're in college)
