Here we have !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens leaving port. This is the third ship of this class that I've caught so far. I've decided my goal is to attempt to capture all 60 ships home-ported in San Diego, which I've come to understand is hime to more US Navy ships than any other port in the world. I was honestly surprised at this; I always assumed Norfolk had that honor. Note the "hue" of the photo above. No, I'm not using a sepia filter, that is the smoke in the air from all the wildfires we're dealing with at the moment.
Anywho, some stats:
Class: Ticonderoga Guided Missile Cruiser
Length: 567ft (173m)
Complement: ~400 officers and enlisted
Motto: "Victory Vindicates Liberty"

Honestly I do find it hard to believe that there are more ships stationed in San Diego than Norfolk.
BTW I was stationed on a Ticonderoga class CG out of San Diego, you aren't going to get any shots of her though because she's at the bottom of the ocean.

Yup. San Diego 60, Norfolk 53 by the current count . I was quite surprised, too. I think part of it is Norfolk's huge mothball fleet; we don't have that out here. All our ships are active.

Could be, there's no room for inactivated ships in San Diego, plus we have what was once the largest part of the reserve fleet up in the Bay Area at Suisun Bay. Now that's being drawn down and I suspect will be gone (or close to it) by the end of the decade.
