Also, if any of y'all are in Ann Arbor and see a white Mazda 3 with Japanese plates on the front, or a guy with a red beard and shaved head, say hi.

A Mazda3 sedan, however, is a different story. My main issue with it was always that the trunk is a decent size, but the opening is so damn small.

I love my Mazda3 but damn if my GF's Honda Fit can swallow way more than I can fit in my hatch.
And now I feel like I should apologize.

Man, that sucks. There are several Opponauts I want to meet IRL, just to talk shop.

That, and the awkward rear kept me out of a sedan.

He does. There is a reason I drive a small wagon daily. (It's too practical to be just a hatch.)

I miss my wagon. Soon as I get the P/S fixed on the Camry I'm throwing it up for trade/sale on Craigslist.
If I can find a manual Mazda6 wagon I just might have to get me one.

Well, I'm still in Michigan, just at work, which is not as fun as the Charley's fratio.

'Tis okay. I'm only up here to visit old friends, and then go back to work in Tennessee.

Oh I am not complaining, I am just saying the Fit (which has fun-ish driving dynamics) punches above its weight as a crap hauler.
I still am impressed by the sheer volume of stuff I can put into my car.

Agreed. I went from a Volvo 240 wagon, by way of an S60, to the 3, and I'd argue that the 3 is almost as capable as the 240.
If it were a little longer (Skyactiv Mazda 5, anyone), it'd be perfect.

Oh my god I have creeped out so many people in the Boston Area who have the Mazda 6 wagon. I just look at it like this:
