"If you only lied to me, we wouldn't be in this situation". Like he didn't tell me if I kept doing my job, I was safe. Like he didn't take me in the conference room and whine about how many other people had lied to him when they were looking. Like it wasn't his choice to screw over my livelihood. Man, if that's not a sign that I need to get out, I don't know what is.

Cake and eat it too. They what to know and plan for everything, but they would rather not have to deal with the truth as it leads to more work. It is like rubbernecking at an accident; you don't want to look at the carnage, but can't look away. This is also the same as when ever Bieber is on TV.

I just can't believe that someone could straight up lie to you, lay all of that out for you that way, and still screw you over as soon as it stops being convenient to not do so.

It's the sociopaths of the world who move up in the management chain.

Did you say you were in software sales? We had a guy show up yesterday to demo some software, except his computer was borked. Tried to blame it on our equipment, even though it clearly wasn't working on his computer.
If that's the type of person you have to deal with, I recommend jumping ship immediately.

Passing the buck and blaming the customer? That's low level stuff around here!
Yeah, I'm hoping to be out before my 60 days are up. Just not a whole lot of bites on the 30+ applications/resumes I've put out so far. :\

I'm not sure how much help this will be, but have you reached out to your sphere of influence or looked into any sort of networking groups in your area? I hated my last job and ended up trying to find something for a year by just getting my resume out and applying like crazy. I ended up getting my current job because I reached out to a friend, and I was an easy in.

I have been slowly getting to that. I've been putting things out for a couple months now, but I have realized it probably won't work, and have started my networking now.

Unfortunately the assholes with these socio-mental issues tend to get noticed. They do a good job and are dedicated, so they get rewarded for it. My boss referred to it as the peter principal. promoting someone to a position of incompetence. A good employee does not always a good boss make. A great lead hand isn't always a good supervisor. Accountants are rarely good CEOs. And lastly: IT should never promote from within. No one gets the ironic shirt, mug or clever login system you have devised based on a D20 and the base maths of a time lord. BTW Time is linear. We are inside it, not outside.

That's this guy through and through. Married to the job, still looking to please his boss (who got promoted to director at the same time that he got promoted to management), and still only concerned about how to hit his quota every month. The table always earns top honors for money, but there's quite a bit of turnover on this team.

Honestly, you should've lied to the guy.
I've been in a couple different situations where I've been looking for a new job while still working in a current job.
One was at a company where it was well known that if they found out you were looking for a new job, they'd just fire you on the spot. The management there were also a bunch of not-to-be-trusted assholes.
The other was when I was working as a temporary contractor at a company where there was only so long I'd be able to stick around anyway. Looking for a new job was going to need to happen. My boss there had already stuck up for me to her boss and other upper management types on multiple occasions.
I'll bet you can guess which boss I shared information about my job search with.

I was that guy. I hooked on to a mentor and followed throughput the company, until I was living in a rented house 2 hours from my family, 5 days a week. I worked 15 plus hours a day, not including emails, BBM, after hours and was working on my holidays via Cell/BB. I spent a birthday working for 40 plus hours straight.
I went from the lowest job (Production Floor worker- at the worst job in that occupation)to one of the highest in the building (without being a VP in the head office) in less than 10 years. I learned everything through necessity and dedication. I became a GOTO guy for history, options and opinions. I owe my mentor everything for what I learned. Including the last lesson, don't become him. He got fired a month after I quit. Then his wife left him (he never spent any time with her, so I don't think they really knew each other). No one would hire him in the area. He had a bad reputation for being able to get things done, but being difficult and hard on people.
I got to the point that a ringing phone would make me start to twitch and I couldn't tell what the truth was any more. The day I quit, I was in the middle of a massive issue that I handled right up to the end. I went from a customer presentation (3 hours from work) to a job interview and hiring back to work (2 hours away) and put in another 8 hours.
A wise man told me that If I died tomorrow they would have to hire someone to replace me. That would suck and take time to get them trained. My kids would not be able to hire a new dad. I have a job near my home. I see my kids every night (little bastards). I have a BB and occasionally have to go back in to work (I volunteer) to review a problem after hours. It has rang twice about external problems in the last year after hours. Both times it was to have me go somewhere the next day instead of into work. Not Jump in a car or on a plane in a couple of hours.
