Possible explanation after the jump

The cop wanted to pull the white SUV over on the left lane, stepping out in traffic to do so. The car behind the SUV was still going too fast, possibly distracted, rear-ending it.

I'd understand if it were a slow moving residential road with one lane, but not a busy road like this one.

What the fuck is he thinking just walking out casually across the highway like that? What an idiot! Sure, that black car shouldn't have been speeding, but there is no reason why anyone should walk out into the road like that. Does he think he's that far above everyone else that common sense rules don't apply to him?

I'm not sure why this pissed me off as much as it did. If that guy were sitting down, watching this happen to someone else, or if it was some teenager walking out into the street, you know that this guy would call the person a fucking idiot immediately.

I'd say the asshat ratio in this case is 90% cop, 10% speeder. The amount of people who willingly walk out into traffic is a hell of a lot smaller than the amount of people who speed on occasion.

How about the POS Jeep's brake lights with the exception of the CHMSL were inoperative? Check the vid and you'll see only the 3rd brake light illuminates. Real cause was the idiot in the Jeep didn't properly maintain their car.

Only the right light was out...look closely you'll see the left is illuminated.

Cop caused the accident....the car could have prevented it though. I think they probably could have stopped if they were better at threshold braking. They were going fast, but even with the delayed reaction, if they would have been on them harder in the beginning, and didn't lock them up, they wouldn't have hit. He also could have kept control of the car and made an avoidance maneuver if he hadn't locked it up. The cop was far enough out of the way near the end.

There's a 2 lane 80kmh road where people frequenly speed due the highway ending, so 130 -> 80kmh limit, where the police also steps out onto the road to stop people. Probably not in an unsafe condition like this, but he did when i passed to pull over a much faster car in the outer lane

Yep, that cop needs a suspension. He walked right out in front of one vehicle, and caused the crash of two others. Incredibly reckless behavior.

Where you wrote 'stepping out', I assumed you meant the back end of the car stepped out as he accelerated and changed lanes or something, not actually walking out into the road. That's just insane.

A few years ago in Maryland.....they were doing speed check from a plane.....I came over a crest on RT 83 and damn near creamed a MD state trooper because he stepped out in traffic. I didn't get a ticket, I just about ran him over because he misjudged the speed of the guy next to me and stepped into my lane.
