I have this things for "base model" cars that I don't entirely understand.

BMW 320i over 335i? Yeah.

Kinja'd!!!

Silverado W/T over High Country? Definitely.

Kinja'd!!!

Wrangler Sport over Rubicon? Yeah.

Kinja'd!!!

Shouldn't I want the higher models rather than the bottom barrel ones? Maybe it's the simplicity of them that attracts me to them? Maybe I'm just weird.

I understand it.

Sometimes it's cool or just enjoy the chassis. Don't always need to spend more on moar power

That's how I felt about the G8 V6 I posted earlier. It's supposed to be a composed chassis, why spend the extra cash on the V8 when I can get a V6 with 70% of the power for less than $20k.

Power is fun but overrated for a DD.

A nice interior and good ride quality mixed with good handling is good enough. Even base models are fast compared to cars from 20 years ago.

I typically agree for some specific reasons. Extra options tend to add weight, complexity, and...... cost. I am not picking a car based on the doodads and gadgets or panoramic sunroof.

A week ago I borrowed a friend's beater truck for a few things and a return to its simplicity of manual rollup windows, mechanical mirror adjustment, ect was refreshing. I have spend enough time with broken electric window regulators and automatic climate control on the fritz to appreciate simplicity.

Lastly, so long as it is a pleasant motor, less powerful is often more fun. It requires you to rev, and press the pedal.

This. This is what attracts me to them.

I sort of agree. I'd take a fully-optioned 4-cyinder over a stripper 6-cylinder. I would never want a stripper base model car.

Yeah, that's why I told everyone I know who was in the market for an Infiniti so save 2500 bucks and get the G25 over the G37.

I think that's a very nice ''thing'' to have. This way, you appreciate way more cars on the road

I agree, I'm pretty happy with a 2011 323i.
