Just kidding with the frank ocean title... but I had an awesome opportunity. My good friend (high school) has no interest about cars, but his dad is a car nut.. to the extent that one of their garages has a separate address and phone number, as well as a loft with a bathroom that has more square footage than my house. Really humble guy though. regardless... He went out of town for a week, and his son gave me access to the garage as revenge to his dad. I had access to:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Pics don't do justice. All under 30k miles, pristine condition. Also i'm fairly sure that B6 alpina is super rare... Everything is completely stock, except the e34 M5 has an exhaust as well as coilovers and the e30 M3 is stripped and raced out.. however registered and street legal.

I've never had so much fun to be honest. I learned that everyone must drive a carburated e21 at some point in their life. It is a joy to drive with the windows down, absolutely roaring through gears and personally fighting all the corners in the road without assisted (let alone rack and pinion) steering. 40 miles an hour feels like 100. While scary at times, the car never looses control. absolutely planted. It's amazing how it is clearly old, everything rattles, and it meets no "luxury car" standards. The tach and speedo vaugley wiggle around. It first startup, you consider driving a gokart instead. It truly turns out to be the ultimate driving machine, however. And that is the only thing it is good at.

The M5 is amazing. at first, I was disappointed. It was the first of the cars I drove, so I was timid and cautious. But once I laid my foot down, she sang to me. That inline six is the big block of the honda engine. Winding that engine out never got old. Once again, the ride was perfectly reasonable and it did not feel as if it was "on rails," however it had more cornering stability than i knew what to do with. The back end slid about as if on an ice rink, but with the steering wheel firmly grasped in my hard i felt confidently in control. She was a big girl, but she knew how to slither around.

Kinja'd!!!

The ferrari was cool just to take around town with a v8 behind my head. I enjoyed as people i knew saw me drive a real ferrari to be honest. The driving position was very uncomfortable, however it was not nearly responsive enough (in respect to both the engine and handling characteristics) to be "fun" to drive as a racekor. I LOVE THAT IT WAS A DOGLEG THOUGH I NEED A DOGLEG IN MY LIFE. AND HOLY SHIT THIS ONE WAS A GATED ONE AEFNSDIFAEIRWNFN but in all seriousness the gearbox was a bitch. took half an hour to warm up enough to make the 2-3 and 4-5 changes. The pedals were super closer.. as I type this out it all seems stupid, however the car was just not a pleasure to drive. also my first midship car to ever operate.

The M3...... I honestly don't have words. It was crazy for me to dick around on the highways with the stupid fast linear acceleration. I don't care how fast I was actually going; feeling every bump and having no noise insulation felt fast. I didn't feel comfortable enough to toss it around other than that though. I called my friend with lots of autox and track experience to go for a ride, and he took that thing by the back of it's neck and.. she runs. Corner entry speed was savage, and the engine had characteristics of a black bear that just saw his college aged daugher in a porno. I also thought it was really cool having to turn the car on manually (idk what it's called) but the dash is just a bunch of labeled switches (ei fuel pump, water pump, fans, ignition). VDO gauges are also welcoming, providing plenty of feedback as to exactly how fast youre going to die while strapped into deep bucket seats with many point harnesses.

I've been lurking here for a while and this is my first post, I just wanted to share this with some people who might appreciate it!

This whole thing confuses me, and I hope that kids dad finds out and beats his sons ass for letting his friends thrash on his car collection.

We didn't thrash, the other sons take the cars out regularly and play with them. This ons in particular just doesn't care for cars... We didn't do anything that his dad wouldn't of allowed, I just didn't know him well enough to ask him to let me drive them myself

I appreciate the fact that you friends dad owns amazing cars. That being said it might not have been the best move to drive them without his permission. Still though sounds like you had an awesome day.

If one of these cars got wrecked somehow while the dad was out of town I'm sure he would have been a bit pissed.

Maybe I'm just being skeptical but the last time I read a story of a kid "borrowing" a car, it was a GT500 that ended up hitting a deer, street racing, and the kid was arrested for grand theft auto. *

*Not accusing you of grand theft auto

I would have been too scared I would have crashed the cars honestly. Other sons driving the cars is fine but you're not a son ya know? I mean I personally don't hate you for it but just consider the fact that you're driving someones babies without permission before you take the keys next time.

ahhh yes. Looking back, there was a huge risk involved. but i couldn't have say no to an offer like that. Their family is super laid back, and we already sent pictures of us driving his cars to the dad. He was happy to see that my friend (his son) sparked an interest in cars

oh I don't exactly blame you if someone threw me the keys to an E34 and an alpina I'd take the chance to.

Understandable. I was terrified most of the time, and 99% of the driving was slower than I have driven ever before, out of fear. If it helps convey the situation, we also sent pictures of me and his son driving the cars, and he got a kick out of his son's new interest.

I don't think there is a right or wrong here, but I wouldn't drive somebody elses cars without their knowledge or permission. What about insurance?

I mean the son is the dad's. like son. he knows him in and out. I am not sure he would approve of somebody he can't trust completely, you know what I mean?

Just remember to put the cars up on blocks and run them in reverse, to take the miles off when you're done.
