So I'm back home from Tulsa and I noticed a couple things. I thought being drowned in southern hospitality would make California seem like a hellhole, it does if you want the short version of it.
1. Homesick, emailing professors 24 hours a day to find summer research in California so I don't have to go back to Tulsa for the summer.
2. I'm a 19 year old with the emotions of a 4-year old and I'm two getting-yelled-at-by-my-parents away from being fine going back to Tulsa for the summer.
3. I slammed the front bottom part of my TL parking in Cal Poly Pomona. GODDAMIT. But it's all good, it's just scratched.
4. People in Tulsa are so nice that it makes everywhere in a California college look like a BMW dealership (douchebags and BMWS and all.)

You're growing up man. I remember I had to spend 3 months at my parents house when I was aged 20. It was then I vowed never again!

One small quibble: Tulsa isn't in the South, it's in Oklahoma. The reason why they're so nice over there is because there's literally nothing else to do.

It's close enough for the southern hospitality to carry over.

I remember my first meal there and it was the first meal I ever had where the server was so nice I wanted to tip more but my frugalness prevented me from doing so.
First few weeks there I was choking from the niceness from my classmates compared to the dog-eat-dog douchebaggery I dealt with in high school.

Bide your time. Go back to Tulsa in August. Then sign up for summer classes/internships outside of California next year.
You're a man now.

It's funny you said that. My in-laws moved from Chicago to here (Houston) in 1990. At first, they were appalled at how sarcastically nice everyone here was.
Then they realized we weren't being sarcastic. Now, they love it here.

I actually have a summer research thing in Tulsa with my professor in late May, but I asked him for an extra two weeks with my parents so I'd fly back into Tulsa in June if I needed to, but I'm trying to find something here so I don't have to. If I flew back this June, I wouldn't come back to California after the summer session ends in August. :[

Many times, where you grew up isn't necessarily where you belong. The ability to recognize that is a huge step towards adult independence.

No, the reason they're nice over there is that they don't have to live in Texas.
