Now I know many people determined the CLA wasn't worth the money and you should just listen to Consumer Reports and buy a nice Accord...
But I challenge anyone out there, to show me ONE trim level of Accord that will give an Audi R8 a run for its money. From what I found on a quick glance around the net, the R8 V8 is good for a 0-60 of 4.3 and a 1/4 of 12.5. The CLA AMG is good for a 0-60 of 5.0 and a 1/4 of 13.3. (2013 accord sedan is good for a 6.1/14.3)From a roll race, it took a bit of time for this R8 to start pulling on the CLA and I think aerodynamics was a major factor here. Still, that is one impressive 4 cylinder.
The CLA45 AMG also costs a boat load of cash for a car in that class (just under 50 grand) but hey, its an AMG benz.

My problem with the CLA45 is that I like my cars loaded to the gills, but that pushes the price on it to over $70k. I'll take the loaded CTS-Vsport for that price.

If all you are going to do is race, then fine, but if you're ever going to sit in the abomination that the Merc calls an interior and take a look around then I'd avoid it. It's really, really bad.

Thats basically the same with any german luxury car. In 3 years that 70 grand car will be worth about 35.

Yup. Thus is why I almost blew a gasket when I priced it out.

Interesting you like checking all the boxes.
I like a mid level of options myself. I feel like you start getting diminishing returns when you max out how much you can spend. That always pushes the car's price up so much that you could just buy a more expensive car with a mid level of options.
Or in Porsche's case checking all the boxes pushes you up into Pagani's price bracket...

the only thing I really hate about this is the stupid nav screen. Is this one of those "you gotta be there" types of interiors?

When I sat it one I was completely turned off. Everything looked and felt cheap and that's just not the feeling you want when you buy a Mercedes. Without me saying a word my wife turned to me and said, "this is terrible".

Yeah, that's the V8 though. A bolt on coyote mustang could give one of those trouble in a straight line. I'd still rather have that even in V8 trim over Merc's best Accord impression.

It's just a personal preference of mine, but I hold onto vehicles forever. I'd rather drive a vehicle that I am thoroughly infatuated with for 8 years than a car I like for four.
I'm being irrational, I know, but that's how I think when it comes to cars (and hotel rooms).

That makes sense. And some car companies don't triple the price of the car when you load it up with options.
Just make sure to skip the leather covered air vents if you buy a 911 :)

You will probably be able to get an ATS-V for similar money that will outrun the CLA while being closer in size. Also, manual.

I need a larger car, really (3 kids). I would have made some exception if the loaded CLA was a decent price.
Isn't the ATS-V supposed to drop in late 2015?

Leather-covered air vents?! I'll get it only if it comes with whale foreskin-covered seats.

I checked and this is all it said. So unfortunately it's probably just plain ol cow skin. (price was about $1750)

Panamera. $2.5k for leather vents. Leather. Vents.

The CLA is Mercedes smallest car, the ATS is C Class size so you'd be moving up from the CLA. The CTS is a big car

Driven 3 CLA45's, and I can tell you, they are NUCKING FUTS! For a factory turbo 4. I honestly think they are more fun to drive than an SL65. They sound insane when down shifting. I tend to agree that the interior feels a bit on the cheap side and rear headroom is atrocious and the screen looks like an afterthought, but the seats are fantastic and I still think the quality is better than almost anything out of Japan. At least the wood trim is real and they don't squeak or rattle. Even flagship Lexus and Infiniti models rattle like crazy after a couple thousand miles.

It's totally worth it. It adds a lot of function. The leather cools down the air as it exits the vents. And it also adds weight to the car. And weight is good because it helps keep the car grounded to the ground.

NO.
Only if it's whale foreskin.

If I wait around for the TRUE Vs to come into the market, maybe. I'll have to do a comparison with all the girls (ALL DAUGHTERS).
They're being spoiled by my wife's spacious Expedition.

Unfortunately that option is only available with Lexus. It's much easier for them to source whale foreskin since the Japanese fishing boats hunt whale all the time.

I didn't even think about that.
............
Excuse me while I go looking online for a good whale foreskin tanner in Japan.

I'm sure your girls would like nothing more than for Dad to have a 400+ hp sedan to haul them around in. A Ford Expedition is not a good car to use as a measure of space unless you want to drive nothing but full size SUVs.

With launch control and the DCT these go from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. They're fucking insane.

I think if the R8 was not manual it would have taken it much quicker. Fact is the flappy paddle box is much quicker than a shift-your-own unit.

his shifting was pretty good, I'm not sure if thats a major factor here. If I could make a cup of coffee in between shifts then you'd be onto something

I know, girly looks aside, it's the perfect city car. Wish they hadn't made them in such limited quantity. They've stayed very expensive.
