I leave you with a $62,120 Silverado 2500 LTZ Duramax

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Apparently GM is doing a refresh on the trucks this upcoming year. Changing how they look slightly and some other light alterations like what they did to the Malibu. Hopefully they don't change too much, because I really like how the current trucks look. They say they're doing it because of a lack of consumer interest.

I would imagine they will update the Duramax, if they are smart. On paper, you would be a fool to buy one.

The DuraMax maybe be getting up there in age, but it's still competitive in the class. An update wouldn't hurt to put it back on top though.

I love how these look other than the stupid fenders. Hopefully they don't change much.

People just don't dig the square fenders. They're like GM's design symbol. Even the '05s have squarish fenders.

I know, but something about the new ones looks like the engineers said they needed a wheel well there with a preliminary drawing, and the designers just forget to design that area.

It's not competitive though. It's torque is way down compared to the others. Even if 765 ft lbs is a lot, it's laughable compared to the 850 and now 860 the competitors are putting down. In this class, torque is king and the Duramax is the Jester.

I didn't realize it was down by that much. I thought the others were in the 700s still. Yeah, time for an update.

Nope, Ford is 440/860, Ram is 385/850, and the GM's are 397/765. Another problem they will run into is the Allison. It is a great transmission, but it just doesn't compete with Ford's Torqueshift, more so with added power.

It looks like it was designed by Jezza.

I wouldn't write it off that quickly. Even the outgoing Scorpion had a healthy advantage in output and was still getting outperformed significantly by the GM trucks in every comparison. I'd bet that whatever advantage the Ford picks up in this latest iteration is going to be smaller than you might think.

And why would the allison be a problem for the GM trucks now? It's been performing well up to this point. Has Ford done something with the 6R410 or is it the same? If the latter I don't see how a more powerful engine will somehow make the transmission better...?

Watch Industrial Injections breaking point video on Youtube. It is fine stock, but once power is added to the Allison, its starts needing more and more. What I am saying is that the Allison, will have to be thoroughly upgraded to handle extra power from an updated Duramax. Also, the reason the Scorpion was losing in comparisons was due to the turbo causing surging. That is the major change on the updated one. It went from a 6?mm to a 72mm.

They've been square and squarish wheel wells since the 70's. It's not a new thing.

Ok I get that. I don't see what that has to do with the stock trucks however. Isn't that what the conversation was about? Alright sure that makes the torqshift tougher, but unless we're talking aftermarket and someone definitely wants to crank up the power, that alone doesn't make it a better transmission. I guess we're thinking from two different angles.

What I'm saying, to make the power to compete in it's class, it would shorten the life span of the Allison that is used currently by a lot.
