I took my wife to the Ford dealership last night to try to convince her our next car should be a Fiesta 5 door. They had a used one with a manual! She took one look and immediately said it was too small. She sat in the drivers seat and said it felt like it was closing in around her. I sat in the drivers seat and thought, "this thing has gotta be so much fun!". I guess my dreams were crushed from the beginning.

Something about small women and needing big vehicles...

You made the mistake of not making her drive the ST.

My mother drives a Fiesta. I almost disowned her, because she bought an automatic sedan with the 1.6 NA engine, rather than an ST.

Focus want a option? It's just as ugly and is supposed to be great to drive as well.

Want to buy it for the fuel efficiency. She has an hour commute. We'd probably save almost 4 grand per year if we got the base car instead of the ST.

She made a b line for the Focus Titanium. I told her it was a $32000 car and wouldn't save as much money on fuel.

I'm real tempted to give up my car for it. But it wouldn't save much money for me since my commute is less than 15 minutes.

If you had a year to spare then I'm sure they'll start to pop up.

What vehicles has she been interested in?

Incidentally, that one is almost identical to my mother's... Same color and all. Well, except hers is a '14, so it's post-facelift.

The facelift helps a bit, but it still a really awkward sedan! Sits too high, weird creases, the hatch is much better imho

I agree. The Fiesta sedan has the same problem that the Genpu Mazda3 sedan had; it was designed as a hatch first, and the sedan was an afterthought.

To a lesser extent, even the Volvo 740 of yore had the issue, because the wagon was actually designed first (even though the sedan hit production first) and the sedan was a hack job to attract American buyers.

I'm hoping so. I'll be much more interested in a year for sure.

She liked the Focus. But she really wants a minivan. I agree that when we have kids a minivan would be am excellent choice, but right now it's a bit premature. The cars we already own get bad enough gas mileage.

Some minivans are ok, but it's still a minivan. Maybe a CUV could work as an intermediary?

We both hate SUV's. Minivan or wagon... We both agree on that.

Mazda 5 series? Can get that with a manual.
