My wife only had about 30,000 miles on her 2013 Elantra GT before her tires were showing signs of serious wear and tear. Not to mention hydroplaning in some pretty shallow amounts of water. I found these general tires for right around $99 each shipped and scooped them up. I've purchased General tires in the past and have been pleasantly surprised at the value for the price point. What sold me on them is the advertisement of performance grip in wet/dry as well as light snow. While we have yet to test them in the snow, the wet and dry grip has been an upgrade from her old Hankooks even in pristine condition. And that's not a biased observation, I have a pair of Hankooks I love on my mustang (albeit a different series than what comes on an Elantra).
The tread is super aggressive in appearance and skirts water well. One of the neatest things about these tires is that they literally print text in the tread to let you know when to replace or when the tire is wearing unevenly. Helpful if your wife isn't always gauging her tires as she drives.
With a warranty of 40,000 miles I might start rotating these in on some of my other vehicles.

These, as well as the Conti DWS tires are probably the best bang for buck A/S tires out there right now.
