"HammerheadFistpunch" (hammerheadfistpunch)

So I was driving home yesterday and I see a semi-tastefully, but certainly performance oriented SW20 MR2 next to me. The driver (maybe 20) pulled off his removable steering wheel to show off to his friend, and I see it from my now elevated vantage point and snicker. Silly car people. Truth is though, im totally checking out his car. I LOVE SW20's and the 3S engine, If I could convince my wife to let us get a third car is would be a 3S-GE powered SW-20.
The kids get a glance at me scoping them out and he takes the wheel off and looks at me and says:
"look man, no steering wheel, what am i going to do?!"
Attempting to shock and or impress me. Instead I disarm him with:
"What year?"
"What?"
"What year is your SW20? I want one as my next car purchase"
"oh, uh, 91."
"I Like it"
"Thanks..."
Then the light changes and we drive off. Was there some kind of lesson here? Maybe something about how just because I drive a big SUV doesn't mean I hate sports cars or need the status symbol or something, or about how silly removable wheels are. I don't know. Enjoy an SW20

I've really been lusting after an SW20 recently. It's too bad that most of them have been beat to shit. There are a couple of nice examples near me, but they want good money for them ($10k+). But given their relatively scarcity is stock/clean format, perhaps not unjustified asks.

I gotta say, I don't know if I had ever seen how sexy this bit right here is before. I mean, I must have seen it, but until this picture I never quite realized it.

It's a design that's aged quite well.

I used to freak out gray beardos with my knowledge of old stuff.
I used to live by this guy really into mopars I was just outta high school I had a VW beetle and then a 1995 z28 he once I dont know how he knew I could work on crap but he had me polish the paint on one of his mopars once and he let me drive it and it was fun but thats another story. I was at my freinds house across the street just hanging in the drive way and my neighbor drives up super excited which is really wierd for this guy. He asks "guess what I ust found!" I can tell he just has to tell someone. So I am like "you found 426 max wedge parts." I BLEW HIS FREAKING MIND! cuz thats just what he had found he found the heads and intake and dont remember what else. Appraently he got them for a steal too. I was just like Aww yeah like a boss. It was just a guess but he was pretty freaked out how I could know that and I think mostly that I even knew what a max wedge was.
I like freaking people out with knowledge especially oldsters who think young punks aint hip.

I have a sadder, similar story about educating my parents former nieghbor on some of the finer points of his McLaren SLR and Ferarri F430
"oh, I guess so, you would probably know more than me"
Damn strait I do, now give me the keys!

I
think that's why I'm not interested in supercars/hypercars anymore outside of their engineering; because owning one is a statement of how hard you've worked, not how much you love cars.

I think I have heard you use that "if I could own a third car I would own..." statement before. I'm pretty sure it was the miata but this SW20 is hellavalot better than a miata.

miata would be nice, but I don't want a soft top. Boo to that.

I love NA; high rpm, linear power curve, evocotive noises and vibrations. Don't get me wrong, turbos are great, but I REALLY want a BEAMS blacktop in an SW20. I don't need it to be fast, but it needs to feel like im pushing it all the time.

Yeah, the BEAMS are nice engines for sure. The only reason I ask is considering the 3sGTE's relatively high compression for a turbo engine and 7k rpm redline, it sings and is based off the 3sGE anyways.

No question, but I love me the NA. granted, it would be the GTE that I would buy because getting a GE means big money or lots of time...or both.

Happens at car shows all the time. Me and my friends talking to the old guys. They're usually pretty impressed.
