What's your forbidden fruit, the car more tempting by not being available in your country?

Thanks to watching waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Top Gear and Fifth Gear I have a major thing for hot French Hatches, especially the Renault Megane. Sure the Fiesta ST is probably better in most ways (and cheaper and available here) but I want a Megane dammit. This one in particular;

R32-R34 Nissan Skyline for sure... It is cool driving a car never sold in your country, but more people would flip out seeing one of these than an old 7 series going down the road.

I know they're technically legal to import *now*, but just never having been sold here makes it somewhat of one.

As to real *still being made new* cars, the UAZ 452 series (now UAZ 2206). I'm less keen on the new Lada Niva, so didn't include it, but plenty of forbidden fruit years of the old one still exist.

that was one of the few options that would have kept me from buying a WRX. That and a Fusion AWD wagon.

Most of the cars I want are unavailable here. RS 2 Avant, Skylines (the KGC10 and the R32 most of all), Toyota Chaser Tourer V, Hilux diesel, S15 Silvia, Evo IV or V, and the list keeps going. lol

4 door, RWD, manual Toyota w/ a 1JZ-GTE... YES PLEASE!!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, I know that the IS300 almost answers this, but finding one with a manual is hard enough as it is, it has an N/A 1JZ-GE, and it definitely doesn't look as good.

Yea, I really wish they would bring the fusion (mondeo) wagon over, I made that request too btw lol.

I'm not sure if it make it better or worse that I've driven the Ranger XLT Super Crew Cab diesel Manual here in the US with a Manufacturer plate.

I had Sport Trac and loved it (i guess its the uncle or something of the Ranger you posted) It was an Auto. I don't know if i'd prefer diesel or gas but having the WRX I sure as hell would want manual. If they could make that Ranger go 0-60 and corner like the WRX it would be much appreciated....I should stop daydreaming at work.

lol about it cornering like a WRX.

It's not related to the Sport Trac at all. The Sport Trac is an Explorer with the ass end cut off and a bed stuck on. don't get me wrong, I love those - hard to find though!

The Ranger is purely an over seas platform and is sold globally, everywhere from Europe, to Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and especially Australia. Oh and it's glorious. Can go through 3-4 feet of water stock, can climb crazy steep grades, and has unbelievable downhill controls, even when towing. Which it can tow almost what an F-150 can do.

As for the Mondeo you brought up to a dealer in the US, I bet they said the Ford WHAT? lol. The thing that bugs me on that one is that it would be so easy, they just have to put the different body on it, everything is already emissions passed, it would probably need a couple more safety tests though.

Yea I had a 95 explorer and the interiors were almost identical (04 sport trac). I picked my cousin up (who lets just say had his head high in the clouds) looked at me after 5 minutes of driving and said ' i thought you got a new truck'. I think they stretched the frame 18" or so to accommodate for the bed which gave it a turning radius of an cargo ship. I know the Mondeo isn't offered here but I was shocked that the guy wasn't even aware of it. When my wife was looking for an Escape, management offered me a job because I knew more about the cars than our salesman which in a way is pretty bad for him.

Hahahaha yeah I'm actually not surprised they didn't know. I can rattle on about car's not for sale by Ford in the US because of my time working solely on International Ford Advertising. Figo anyone? Galaxy? S-MAX? Prepare for eye bleach haha. I drove the Figo in Right Hand Drive Stick Shift, that was an experience.

And yeah the frame stretch makes sense.

It sucked. My tire rubber on the sway bar and they said it was normal for the Sport Trac. Sounds like a cool position. Sounds like your in a decent position to keep harassing them for the Mondeo. AWD manual ecoboost from the Flex. That thing would be super fast.

yea I keep getting "NO" on the ranger. They do site good reasons (despite them pissing me off).

Basically optioned similarly in the US a Ranger would be about a 1-2k less than an F150 and they just think everyone would buy the F150 at that price, which makes sense, but I'd rather have the smaller Ranger. I don't need a full-size pickup (and that's why I'm obsessed with the Canyon right now).

I think from the list of wants we've discussed this morning the most feasible is the Fusion Wagon.

You'll unfortunately never see a manual Flex or MKT.

thats a bummer on everything there and I have no desire to own something as big as an F-150. Comparable f-150s and Sprt Tracs were pretty close in price too.

That's one of the reasons why Sport Tracs are hard to find, there was no benefit to owning one other than fitting in parking spots better. MPG sucked on the Sport Trac, you couldn't fit a damn thing in the bed, and it's towing was no where near that of an F150.

Soooooo just buy an F150 at that cost. You could have probably caught an incentive from Ford if you timed it right to get one at the same cost.

My car taste has always run super 'MURICA, but I saw the new Alfa 4C in person and now I really want to test drive one but it keeps getting delayed and I feel dirty for being attracted to such a thing. I've never owned a car with less than 6 cylinders, and my motorcycle seat height is probably taller than it too!

I bought it used. I'll give you the MPG but I fit all sorts of stuff in the bed. Sure it wasn;t as easy as an F-150 but I was able to fit 1,000 lbs of horse hair plaster to bring to the pump and a load of 2x4 plywood and sheet rock for a small addition I build. I made a small thing to put on the tailgate so I could rest sheet rock on that and the wheel wells. The truck worked very well for me. overall I dont think it had much of a benifit on anything over a F-150. Even being smaller, navigating the parkinglot wasn;t easy

Having driven a 2014 Cayman, I think that's the car to get. Road & Track did a comparison between the 4C, a Lotus and the Cayman. The Cayman won. And that's against the cheater car journo version of the 4C with no A/C, radio or ability to pass US crash requirements.

Dad used to have a BA. Nice steering, punchy engine (his was the base model XT, which has a 182kw 4.0l inline NA 6 and weighs about 1750 kilos) and practical, but you sat a bit high and the interior was nothing special. Very reliable cars though - they are the typical cab here in Aus. Lot's of cabs with over a million kilometers on the odo, though to be fair they always have hot oil in them and hence the less likely to suffer wear from cold starts
