Well, it's 3am in the morning here in Indonesia. And i can't sleep, so i look for some cars for sale, and i found an E55 with only 23k miles. With a price of 57k USD, or cheaper than a brand new Miata. MSRP for this was 197k back then, and it's just 5 minutes from my home. Hmmmm. HMMMMMMM.
I hope it's not a similar car that i saw a few weeks ago, because back then when i saw the car, it's on a flatbed, and that's not looks very good. But i'll check it anyway. I always love the looks of this generation of E-Class. Hell, i might bought this baby. So, any suggestion of what to check on this thing?
Here's the link for the ad, just in case you wonder how car shopping in Indonesia looks like

I work at a Merc dealer Aya. General front end stuff (ball-joints and bushings) ABC system. Superchager clutches are a common issue either the part or a solinoid. Rear main seal and o2 sensors. If you are interested, just give it a good lookover

That front looks a lot like an E63. The front bumper might have been replaced for aesthetic reasons (it does look good) or maybe it was in an accident. I don't know what kind of history reports are available to you, but I'd look at it thoroughly.
Remember, you may be getting the car for a fraction of the original 197k price, but you'll still be maintaining a 197k car. That shit ain't cheap.

My daughter is going to Indonesia this fall for a 10 month youth exchange program. I will be visiting her next spring. I will look for you to give me a ride. :)

I used to have 2 mercs before (W140 S600L and CLS550), so i'm fully prepared on maintenance aspect.
Well, the owner tell me that he prefer the looks of E63.
The doesn't look good part was when i see the car on a flatbed. That's sucks.

Hmmm
Where she is now?
I live in Surabaya. If she was there we can ride in my Crown (or E55 if the deal worked trough!) :D

Well, i was thinking you work for Volvo :D
Well, the owner tell me that it got a brand new supercharger (That worries me. I'm a bit affraid it's not the original one), and new Air Suspension. I hope it's in a good shape, because i miss seeing a star in my driveway.

Even if you're familiar with owning something like that, I'd run at the first sight of the car on a flatbed. That's just me personally though; I have never owned a German car. I prefer cars that can be fixed with a hammer, not a laptop.

Yeah. It was a few weeks ago tough. If he still keeps the service history i think it'll be printed there and i can see why it's on a flatbed few weeks ago.
Yeah. For me the only point of owning this thing is the looks and the sound of that Supercharged V8.

Still in USA until August. Not sure which city she will be assigned to yet. I have been researching Undonesia quite a bit. What a fascinating country.

I see..
Well, me myself live in surabaya. Most likely she will go to the capital at jakarta, which is about 700km away.
But she really ends up in surabaya, i think i can meet you there and maybe look at me or my friend's cars, i have quite a few friends with weird cars like Honda N360 or Mitsubishi FTO or Honda Accord Wagon :D
*Don't expect european exotic tough, it's still quite rare in Surabaya.

one of them tailgated me for an hour and a half this morning. That's my experience. It was silver though.

Yes.. driven a couple and wow.. I remember sitting in an E55 back in 2006 and getting shoved into the seat. Near violent power delivery with freight train top end performance such a treat in an unsuspecting body. Insanely, incredibly powerful and torquey for 2003, and still a force to be reckoned with today. This video came about recently.. explains a whole lot

Well, i never driven a E55, but i expect it's going to be riot.
I once own a W140 S600, and that's mental. I can't imagine an extra few horse and few pounds off can do to a merc. Plus i think E55 is smaller than W140.

I do, my dealer is Volvo, Lotus, Aston, and Merc.I guess my 2 concerns have been delt with. Whether it was done right is still up for questioning. I love my w210. Long live the star.

I see.
Yeah!
All hail the star!
Anyway, how much the star's hood ornament cost?
Since i suspect the ornament on these was missing..

that's from my old merc.. you'd be surprised how easy they are to take off of the earlier e-classes... literally twist them a little and they pop right out. expensive @ ~$50

Excellent car, quite reliable actually. Unlikely to leave you stranded. EL-ULY got the common items right, but this car didn't get ABC (hydraulic) suspension, it got Airmatic. I would alsomake sure to check the transmission for leaks and fluid condition just to be safe. I would buy it!
![]() 05/12/2014 at 04:42 |

Well, thtat's cheaper than i tought.
I once thinking of buying one of those for my old CLS. but i cancel it.
![]() 05/12/2014 at 04:43 |

Damn. I guess i wouldn't touch that.

Yeah, the owner tell me that it's just got a brand new arimatic a few weeks ago, and i know Airmatic is expensive.
He didn't mention about transmission. Let's hope it's on a great condition.
