So there's this neglected Fiat 124 Sport 1800 that I walk past most mornings when I take my daughter to school. It looks pretty straight, and outwardly rust-free, but it's obviously been sitting for a few years.

The top is mouldy and would probably need to be replaced, and the interior looks partially disassembled (I took a quick look and then left, because I was on private property and didn't want to upset anyone).

It's a handsome car, especially with the trunk-mounted luggage rack and the classic red/white colour scheme. It's parked under a big tree, which protects it from the sun, but this also provides a steady supply of falling branches when it gets windy. I don't know how long it's been there, but I do know that it's a shame to leave such a nice little machine in such a terrible state.

Disclaimer: I don't know the owner of this car, I don't know if it's for sale, and I have no commercial interest in selling or moving this car.

Anybody out there looking for a project car? I don't have time or space in my life for it, otherwise I'd try to buy it from the owner myself. If you're serious about it - please don't waste anybody's time - I'd be glad to try and make first contact with the owner on your behalf. If you're in the Montreal area, let me know and I'll send you the address where you can find the car - you can take care of contacting the owner yourself.

I'd forgotten how much I like the way those look

I usually warn people away from these. My brother had one and they break down constantly. ...but then I got thinking, if you were mechanically inclined and slightly demented, it might be interesting to do a MX-5 engine transplant.

Was there much rust?

And I don't recall a 1000, 2000 typo or could be an 1800 or 1600. 1400 also but people usually don't confuse a 4 with a 0.

It could have been a 1600 or 1800, I'll take closer look the next time I go past.

It's quite a handsome car. I can imagine myself strapping a nice leather suitcase to that rack and driving off, slowly and in style, to the seaside for a weekend away.

Update - looks like it's an 1800, for what it's worth.
