Trying to find something to replace his old, dying Astro van. Transit Connect is too small, Nissan NV2500 is too big. Even the base Promaster is 8 inches longer than the Astro.

Find another Astro or Safari. You can find some with low miles on them because old people owned them.

Replace the engine? Hell, even just an engine/transmission rebuild and lube up all the joints would save it. Has to be cheaper than just leaving a car.

Got a budget? I'd say Econoline or Express vans.

Isn't the Transit Connect about the same size as the Astro?

Maybe the new Promaster City (the Doblo, not the Ducato) will be what he's looking for.

more than just engine problems. Car needs a suspension overhall, and is just too unsafe to be driving heavy loads in without making expensive repairs.

Aren't you guys getting the regular Transit now as well? If you're getting all the different sizes, there's bound to be one that fits.

We want to get him something newer. He's only had beater vans his entire life and we feel he deserves something better.

I just find it hard to straight up replace a vehicle that is still running. If you can find a totaled version at the junk yard, replace all parts you can. I do understand trying to get away from a ride. I had a lemon that lived at my mechanic's house. I sold it and it killed itself a month later.

Well there's really nothing around that's the size of an Astro. It was a funny size because it wasnt a full size but it wasnt really a mini-van. You're probably gonna have to go bigger or smaller if you want new.

How about a Caravan, but pull all the seats out?

regular transit is still too big. Smallest is 130 in. Wheel base.

transit connect is much smaller. The base ProMaster seems to be the closest in size.

It's running poorly. But it has over 300k miles on it. Also he's been driving older beat up vans for 30 years. We want to get him something nicer.

I can respect that. I'm such a sucker for my cars though. I've killed two and I still miss them. My car is my lover. No dragon.

I figured the extended wheelbase transit connect would be close.

In length yes, but it's still too small inside.

Maybe Fiat will offer the appropriate van in the US as well. The fifth is already available in the US, the third is on its way (Transit Connect competitor). Number four seems to be the size that's needed here, the Fiat Scudo.

I was thinking this.... or a Ram C/V Tradesman if it's not TOO small in back.

Kinja'd!!!

We have one as our parts hauler at work and it does well. Wish it was a BIT bigger in the back at times, but most bumpers and hoods fit in it. Just not at the same time.
