My choice is without a doubt the Ford Flex Ecoboost. There is more space than any of the higher competitors (Traverse, Highlander,etc.) as well as a nicer interior for the family woman. The looks are about its best feature, making yourself stand out from the schools carpools and the minivans. Your kids would never get confused on which is the car they got dropped off in the morning. And those very kids will enjoy the openness of the several sunroofs, entertainment systems, and even a refrigerated center console!

And for us, Opponauts,the Fantastic Ecoboost engine with 365 HP and enough torque to haul all of the kids, their belongings, and give us fun times behind the wheel. And the Wagonness of it makes it worth it's $45K price tag.

HUGE blindspot in the Flex. You have to be very careful. I don't recommend for moms. Maybe all cars that size or bigger have this prob, do not know.

My mom LOVES her Volvo XC60 T6. Her last car was a loaded 2009 Ford Flex (Bought in 2012 as a Ford CPO with 20,000 miles), with the refrigerator console in the back, and the vista roof. She liked the Flex at first, but started hating it due to issues.

VW Routan. Has a lot of space, nice steering, a solid engine, and great visibility. And it fits 7 comfortably it's perfect for moms. Plus it has nice styling to the point were my step dad and I drive it around. It's a mini van that doesn't feel like a mini van. Perfect for moms and everyone else in the family...

I find myself having to not only check over my shoulder constantly, but also check the side mirror for the little yellow light AND the reflection. Otherwise the high belt line and the headrests of the rear seats block the view. Normally, a good look over your right shoulder will show you everything.

I've never driven a full sized SUV, so maybe this is normal for a big car, but I did not expect it from this.

Here in SoCal, the moms love the Ford Edge and similar (Toyota Venza).

Lots of minivans and full-size Yukons, too.

Basically big, tall wagons, whether they admit it or not.

My mom has one of these, and while I agree with all of the above points, there is just one thing. It's huge. Huge interior = huge exterior. It's a pain in the ass to park anywhere: parallel, garage, and even just a regular parking space.

Also, it's on some Yokohama summer compound tires, so if you're parents aren't in the habit of changing tires in the winter, it is terrifying.

But it is so much fun to step on the gas. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds? So worth it.

Here in Mexico there has been several tendencies. First there was a love for the Big Body on Frame SUVs, around 2007-2010. Then 2010-2012 was all about minivans, specially the Sienna in white. Moms ONLY drive what everyone else does. Then, the tendency is going towards the 3 row crossovers from GM. Acadia and Enclave. NO ONE is unique, except 1 mother who took their kids in a yellow SRT-8 Superbee Charger

In '97 Mom needed a car, so I said she should get a Malibu because that was what she'd wind up with. But no - we went to the DC car show so she could sit in various cars and see if she could see the edges. Long story short - we test drove Camry, Accord, Taurus and a few others. She still has the Malibu. Perfect grandma car.

The GM 3-row crossovers are quite good, and the Enclave is very handsome. I didn't know it would be popular in Mexico.

Sure, but most of the Gen IV are 10 years old now. It's hilarious for today.

I own 2. An '02 with almost 200k, needs its first water pump. About a 30 min job. and my wife's '05. She runs a hybrid dog breeding business. Runs about 30k miles per year.

I live in the snow belt. I trust my entire family to either of those vans at any time. Very cheap to drive. Easy to fix. Swallow a sheet of plywood in a moments notice. There is very little they cannot do.

Plow snow and tow more than 5000 lbs are two of them.

It is, what I dislike is how some moms only buy cars because they see it a lot. It is what happened here with Mazdas, which are very very popular. I really think if you would show them the car with a nissan badge they would say it is ugly. This is the same with the White Siennas. Only this year I know of 4 people who's mothers changed from a random car to a White Sienna.

I think the Venza is an underappreciated car. The mileage isn't great and it has some other shortcomings, but I think it's a sharp car.

Growing up in New England, this was my mother's whip - a gas-engined Peugeot 504 Estate with a 5-speed stick. Quick enough, nimble, comfortable as hell, and held up to four sheep at a time. It was perfect; I wish I had one today.

True story, rolling around my old college town with some friends a few weeks ago, we saw a new Flex in a nice metallic black, and the guy in the group who probably knows least about cars literally does a double-take and goes "Woah....what was that!?" The other guys were laughing and I said, "Dude, that was a Ford Flex. Not a big deal." Guy isn't half as excited when one of the alums brings his DB9 Volante down.

The LS was getting too small for the family so we went down just to see if my wife would like the Flex. 20 minutes later she wants to start paperwork. Didn't get the Ecoboost (couldn't quite make the down that they wanted) but still happy with it. Great roadtrip car and more room behind the 3rd row then almost any of the other 3 row vehicles we looked at.
