(CNN) — The rescue effort at the site of a hot air balloon crash in Virginia has transitioned into a recovery operation, officials said Saturday.
There were three occupants in the hot air balloon, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller said. One body has been recovered so far.
The hot air balloon drifted into power lines, burst into flames and crashed into the countryside 25 miles north of Richmond on Friday night.
Images from the scene showed the balloon soaring in the air with its gondola ablaze.

just saw this on my local news here in NJ, and just said the same thing to my wife. She has wanted to do this forever. I'm like what do you do in that situation? Jump? Theres no where to go. You jump or burn.

Not to disparage what happened in VA, but my friend (ambulance driver/paramedic) was one of the first responders to the scene of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Ljub…
4 dead, 28 injured. The baloon bounced a couple of times, with each crash throwing a few of the passengers out of the basket. They were looking for people in the damn marshlands, which is 63 square miles. Their descriptions of locations didn't help either, since it's mostly all the same. Ambulances got stuck. I personally know a guy and his fiancee that were both on the baloon. Guy had burns, lacerations, broken bones... Just... no.
Back in the day, I used to build model rockets. At one of the events, my model landed somewhere in the marshes and we couldn't find it after a 2 hour search, even though we kinda saw where it landed. Go figure.
Shitty Taiwanese animation:
Yeah, I've had enough balooning for a lifetime, after going up 30 or so meters in one that was tied to the ground. :)
