I still hate the c5, the c7 is the first corvette that I liked the styling on since the c4. In my mind the corvette is one half muscle car, one half sports car, the muscle car half should have some angular styling, the c5 & c6 have no angular styling.

I can't answer this question. It's just too hard!

It would be exactly like getting a do-over on my current stable. My three cars combined are probably worth around $115K. Sometimes I think of keeping one and trading two. Or keeping two and selling or trading one. But I do nothing because I can't decide what to do. The current mix isn't really the best use of that much money. But I don't know what I would do if I got a do-over.

The least practical but most fun choice would be an F430.

A fun but more practical would be an Audi R8 + something else.

I dunno how I ended up picking the 3 that I have or what I would do now. That hardest thing about loving cars is that you don't want to sell the cars you love but you also want to experience owning other cars that you've never owned.

I can't find any car I'm looking for on ebay, but if we expand to craigslist and forums, I've got it down.

Daily, 2005 Lexus Sportcross

Kinja'd!!!

There is one of these local to me for $4500 off craigslist, I'll say $5,000 even for this, 2JZ swap with a big turbo and supporting mods, air suspension and a decent sound system, total should be around $15,000 all in.

Weekend/Track car, 93 MR2 Hardtop Turbo

Kinja'd!!!

I"m actually trying to buy this right now, so this is easy to me. $5,000 for the car, $10,000 for the motor and suspension. Again, $15,000 all in.

Project/Race car, 93 AllTrac

Kinja'd!!!

I'll have to wait for one of these to go up for sale, but I did find one for $1,000 with a bad motor a few months back on craigslist. To be fair we will say $8,000 for the car, $5,000 for the motor. All in should be around $13,000

Tow Pig/Off road, 2004ish Dodge Ram 2500 diesel

Kinja'd!!!

$22,000 for the truck, maybe another $5,000 or so for a second fuel tank for a waste veggie oil system, and a vinyl wrap.

Oddly enough, the race trailer is the most expensive part:

Kinja'd!!!

$30,000 for the trailer, 12'x32' race trailer with 12' living quarters

Totals up to $95,000, less if you count on selling the parts you swap out. Leaves something like $11 grand to play with, that's a lot of gas, tires, and track days!

Haha that's the perfect comeback when she jokes about how many cars you have. What are your 3 rides? Here is my current stable:

2010 997.2 C2 6MT: 50K miles, got it in 2011 with 12K miles on it

2011 E90 M3 DCT: 44K miles, got it in 2012 with 27K miles on it

2004 E46 M3 Coupe SMG: 40K miles, got it in 2013 with 33K miles on it

Now that I hit 50K on the 911 I'm driving it less. I kind of want to balance out the miles on the cars. That way if I want or need to sell or trade any of them they're all still low mileage. I know a lot of buyers won't consider a used car with more than 60K miles on it...

Very nice stable indeed! I have a 2005 M3 ZCP, a 51 Ford F1 pickup, and my kid hauler a 2009 MDX. Which M3 do you like the best? I've been contemplating selling the E46 and getting an E90. 4 drs would come in handy, and they have proven to be more reliable.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > E92M3
05/10/2014 at 18:06

Kinja'd!!!0

Very cool! Is the pickup stock or hot rodded out? My old man has a '52 Ford that's been tricked out. It has suspension from a Mustang and a Corvette V8. He bought it from a guy who had his own mod shop and was retiring. He wanted to see his last project go to good hands.

I like both the E46 and E90 M3. It's hard to pick a favorite because they both have pros and cons. The E90 is the more practical car due to the 4 doors and it being more modern. And it is supposed to be more reliable. But it's not better in all areas. Here are the pros and cons off the top of my head:

E46:

+Better steering weight and feedback. It's not as heavy as the E90 so you get more feedback and the feel is better. I've never driven a front engine car with better steering than the E46 M3.

+Better chassis feel and balance. The shorter wheelbase and lighter weight makes the E46 more intuitive to drive fast around corners.

+My guess is that the E46 has better ride quality than an E90 M3 that doesn't have EDC. It's a guess because I have EDC on my car. The E46 soaks up bumps as good or maybe a tiny bit better than the E90 in comfort mode. I'm guessing that the E9o M3 without EDC will ride stiffer than mine does in comfort. If you go E90 then I would recommend finding one with EDC.

E90:

+The engine. My lord the engine. I've driven the Ferrari F430 and the E90's engine is almost as good.

+The creature comforts. The LCI E9X cars are very modern. I have iDrive with sat radio and bluetooth and it's very convenient.

+The transmission. The DCT is really good. The short gearing on the 7 speed box matches the engine perfectly. You're always in the meat of the rev range. The 6MT would be fun too but probably doesn't suit the engine as well.

Kinja'd!!! E92M3 > Manuél Ferrari

The F1 is all stock other than a 289 V8.

If I got an E90 it would have to be DCT. That way the wife can drive it too, and would come in handy in Atlanta traffic. My E46 has bluetooth, but it's horrible. I've replaced the mic, and tried 3 different phones. Everyone refuses to talk to me using it. lol I know the E90's will work much better, plus it has better options for music. I'm assuming it supports bluetooth streaming, and USB support? Does it have hard drive too to import music on? Can you read text messages on the nav screen too?

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > E92M3
05/11/2014 at 00:57

The DCT is awesome in bad traffic!

The Bluetooth setup works perfectly in my car. I can have long conversations without any issues. I don't have the music streaming module but I have been in LCI E90s that have it and it works.

I have a USB plug but I've only used it for charging. Not sure what else it does. Not sure if iDrive has a hard drive, never checked. You definitely can't read text messages on the screen.

Darn! My wife's 2011 X5 does all those things. I was assuming the LCI E90's would as well if they had Nav.

$30k only buys a GTV now, because Montreals are almost expensive now, being at least $40k for a decent one that you'd still have to import.

I KNOW I looked after I made this comment, the only one I could find is like $60k, which is depressingly expensive.

It's my dream car (and wallpaper, in metallic brown), so I guess I follow pricing extremely closely...

The number of excessive exclamation marks is somewhat of a turn-off!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, the fact that they claim that a full restoration will bring in $200,000, but I've always been a driver-quality car rather than extreme restoration car kind of person. Ads that scream NO RESERVE!!!!!!!!!! at me don't go over with me so well either.

I'd probably spend $55k buying one in metallic brown/green/blue/orange in Europe and importing, since red isn't exactly my favorite Montreal color. Assuming I actually had the money for a Montreal, I'd want to pick colors.
