So jealous. That's probably the car I'm lusting after the most right now. It's like a modern E46 coupe, just prettier.

I think a 220i model should be offered. The true Jalop Edition BMW.

It's impossible to stay mad at BMW when they made this car at this price and still offer the 6MT and Estoril Blue

Great spec, congratulations! Wise choice going with the 228i as the 335i, 435i, and 235iM have all gotten too soft anyways. The all natural straight six is an often unappreciated peach! Nice sound as well.

Here's the kicker. All we did was ask what wiggle room there was, and the guy was happy to oblige (perhaps for such a kickass custom order). We got $2K off that way, and another $1K for the new grad discount.

Oh boy. I mean, it's one thing if you bork two similar paint colors, but borking the gearbox section of the order?

If you have a good dealer, they will put you in a new BMW in the meantime while waiting for the second car to go through production and transit to the US. It's the least they can do if they are responsible for the screwup.

Technically, the 228i is a 2.0L turbo. BMW just firmly believes that Americans want bigger numbers (which is sadly true, I guess).

05/12/2014 at 21:15

Kinja'd!!!0

Congratulations on completely missing the point.

While these things should not happen with computerized ordering, choosing between two options which are 91.6% lexically identical and two that are 0% identical is a degree of magnitude.

Plus one can generally repaint a car. However one does not simply swap the gearbox on a modern BMW.

Yeah, I know... My reply was meant more sarcastic / tongue-in-cheek. You commented that "it's one thing if you bork two similar paint colors..." which instantly reminded me of the huge fiasco over painting a specially ordered M3 the wrong shade of blue. The guy who ordered it made plenty of valid points of why you can't really repaint a car and expect it to be the same. Most people just thought of him as a pretentious douche, though.

I honestly don't know how to drive auto (I genuinely freak out when it shifts itself. Still can't get over it). If I paid good money to get a 2er, and it came with the wrong transmission, I'd be pretty pissed. At least the dealer is willing to admit their mistake, and even take a hit on it to keep the customer happy... Can't imagine having to wait ANOTHER 8 weeks though. I'd try and convince the dealer to pitch in free Euro delivery while they're at it. ;)

This same exact thing happened to by friends mom and her new F30.....but the worst part is that the dealer didn't even have the wherewithal to tell her once they realized. They just replaced the order and assume my friends mom wouldn't notice the extra 8 week wait....

Ok, so what we agree on is that sarcasm is not effectively communicated via text. :)

And that's exactly what I was bringing up. Granted, he had additional issues (Model going out of production), which ended a few routes available to him (Such as building a new car with a brand new interior to his specifications), plus he was paying for BMW Individual. When you order a bespoke car (Audi Exclusive, BMW Individual, Porsche and M-B will do paint colors to sample for about $5000), you should get precisely what you want.

Most people thought of him as a pretentious douche because they aren't able to afford an $80K car. A few of the people who know what goes into a bespoke car thought that it wasn't unreasonable for him to ask BMW to build it right the first time, and not attempt to fix it after the fact.

Frankly, in his position, I would have asked for a full refund, including any "non-refundable" program fees (since it was BMW AG's screwup), and gone elsewhere.

At least when the dealer screws up an order (the case here), the dealer has the opportunity to make it right. Now if they had promised a delivery date, I would have pushed for the discount AND the brand new loaner until the correct car got in.

So I guess being a firm believer that you should get exactly what you pay for means I'm a douche.

Kinja'd!!! cabarne4 > KusabiSensei - Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah like I said, I can understand the paint fiasco — it was an expensive custom order. Granted, it was an easy mistake to make (Atlantic vs Atlantis), but shouldn't have been made to begin with. BMW tried their best to fix it, since production had stopped... really was just a bad situation.

Automatic vs manual, though, I can't even imagine how that could get mixed up along the way.

And yes, yes you are a douche for being a firm believer that you should get exactly what your pay for. ;) (sarcasm)

I got some wheel rash yesterday :(

I was parallel parking on a busy street and trying to get close to the curb to decrease the chances of a car or bicycle brushing up against the left side of my car.

How dumb of me. Anytime I get paranoid it makes things worse. It's better not to stress about stuff and just drive and park like you normally do.

ARGGHH This happened to me over the weekend, I was trying to park and not scrape my rim ended up backing up a little too far and got a small dimple about the size of a pencil eraser in my bumper from a license plate. Not that serious but that's what I get for being too cautious!
