So yesterday I was at my Godfather's house (yes, the Godfather). I forgot he had an NA Miata. I like it, but it's an auto. So I said to him and his wife, when you want to sell it, let me know. Maybe he'll make me an offer I can't refuse. So, question time. What mods should be done and how hard would a manual swap be? FYI, I like everything in this picture.

Manual swap really wouldn't be too teribly hard to do, but unless the car is in really good condition and you get it for dirt cheap you will be better off just buying a manual equipped NA. You can find good NA's for around $3,000 pretty easily and you'd still want to spend another grand or so doing a base line maintenance routine just to get everything to where you know it has been serviced.

It will probably end up costing you more to to a 5 or 6 speed swap into an automatic equipped car than it would to just by a manual equipped vehicle. . .

I think the swap would be a piece of cake its just finding the proper parts which might be expensive not that each part is very expensive but it just adds up with all the small parts needed.

fastback, manual swap, small~ish turbo, new brakes, and minor exhaust mod. Autocross it. If it were me i would shell out for sportier cams too.

Interesting idea. Trivia relevant to you: the automatics had less powerful motors than the manuals. Is it a 1.6 or a 1.8?

depending on what you get the car for..

I'd only get this if you were considering an exotic engine and trans swap. like a K20 with a giant turbo and sequential trans.

I wouldn't bother with it. It's not like manual NAs are scarce; it will be much faster and easier to just start with a 5-speed car.

you could always have a paralyzing accident or lose a leg and then the auto would make perfect sense. I got a fairly legit back injury a while ago and was considering swapping my manual swapped car back to an auto :P
