I am becoming convinced that people who have not recently/ever driven a manual really like it...

Kinja'd!!!

Case in point. My friends wife shows up at the house to meet her husband and me. She is driving a bright yellow, 2008 FJ Cruiser she has had for 2 weeks. We all go to the Discount Tire to get her some better tires and walk over to a next door Chilis and have some lunch.

I asked her how she liked the manual tranny. She said that it so much more fun to drive than she remembered. And, she said, I'm a better and more attentive driver.

YESSSS.

Case in point: Three weeks ago drove a rented Tahoe up to Chicago for a class, at one point I looked down and was doing 95mph on the highway and had no idea I was going that fast. It's far harder to lose track of speed in a manual car when you have to shift at certain RPM/gear/speed combinations.

DesertDog! While I have you here, I recall you wanted to see what this would look like . What do you think?

I like. it The pocketing on the front would help a lot to transition that narrower bumper. Have you considered widening the bumper?

Stretching out the tabs on the end, you mean? Wouldn't hurt to do it just a little bit, if I can come up with a good way to do it.

It's a pretty big attraction to be able to mod the car to effectively bolt that on, though, so nothing too drastic.

Yeah, both front and rear would benefit from a little widening. I do like the narrowness of the Mustang bumpers.

Every portion of the *base* design of the roundbody Falcon was making an effort to evoke "jet fighter", specifically the F-86 Sabre. (Thanks, McNamara!) The bumpers and detail work tend to mute that on a stock model, which is why I'm more than happy to install things like the Mustang bumpers that sharpen that look. I've got the sharpened point '63 hood and fenders with the "jet intake" '60 grille, and with reduced bumpers and some slimmed fairing in under both, it should look nice and predatory.

Case in point: me. I bought my car without having driven a stick more than a lesson here or there. More fun and a better more attentive driver for sure! I'm so much more attuned to traffic around me that more than once it has take me several stop lights to realize the car in front of me has no break lights.
