Coworker got a weather alert on his phone, so I pulled up the local weather on my computer. Alert was, "Strong circulation spotted near Northwest Highway and the Tollway", which, oddly enough, is exactly the intersection at which my office is located. So that was a fun 15 minutes spent in the stairwell.

It's entertaining to listen to people talk about events that don't happen where you live.

It's 70 degrees and sunny with absolutely no wind or humidity or anything here in Albany right now.

It's weirdly routine down here. Everyone who has lived in the area for any amount of time has no doubt experienced the "there's a tornado in the area" thing several times, but it's rare that you actually wind up with tornadic activity right where you are. It's generally 10 or 15 miles away. Much different experience when you're seeking shelter out of routine than when you're seeking because shit might get real.

There's my mom's car after her elementary school got blasted last year. Tornadoes are bitches.

Kinja is kinja'ing your picture, but I can imagine it was torn up.

Tornadoes are even weirder because their paths of destruction can be so specific and narrow. You hear about the big mile-wide ones that level entire city blocks, but most of the time they're smaller entities that tear random, weird lines through any given area. Still do just as much destruction, but 100 yards can make the difference between being shredded to pieces and completely unscathed.

oh man no doubt. We were in the woods and jumped in the biggest RV there (not that that would have done a damn thing). The tornado split and went around us but I thought I was going to die for real

Should be un-kinjaized. I grew up in the corridor between Norman and OKC. We got F-3 to F-5s every couple years. Just a part of life if you want to live there which my parents still do. All the kids packed ship and left as we each turned 18.

Thought that might be the case. Those are the kinds of storms that make it a little harder to be jaded when you're told to get in the stairwells.

That really is the real thick of it, though. Dallas' activity is sporadic if not consistent and sometimes dangerous, but it seems every event up there has catastrophic potential.

It's weird/fucking frightening when something of that kind of life-ending power is within theoretical viewing distance. have to imagine even moreseo when an RV is your safest bet for shelter.
