Well, this is obviously not car related, but for you opponauts that good with cameras, which one is better buy, a Mirrorless or a DSLR? Here's a Hyundai Bus for your problem. Yes, Hyundai made a Bus.

The only thing a mirrorless camera has on a DSLR is that they are usually lighter and more compact.

I think it all depends on what you're using the camera for. I've pretty much always used a DSLR. I prefer them and they are better suited for my style of photography. I tend to think DSLRs are better in general, but they tend to be more complicated. Of course, there are always exceptions. Some mirrorless cameras are amazing, like the Leica M9, and there are plenty of great options that don't cost a kidney.

I think it would depend entirely on what you intend to shoot. I do lots of long range stuff, and I wouldn't want to put a big long lens on a mirrorless camera. I want the flexibility and speed of a DSLR.

It all depends.. but if you're new to "high end" cameras.. I'd recommend a Sony SLT of some sort.. a used Alpha 57 or 77 perhaps?

Well, i rarely shoot anything interesting, so i think i'll only shoot cars, and jack the camera up with my telescope to shoot some planets.
So, the mirrorless was slow then?
Seriously, the last camera i ever bought was a mid-end panasonic digital camera back in 2010

I always thinking of that Alpha 57, but i'm affraid i can't find an adapter to hook it up with my telescope.

It's fairly easy here in Europe, can't say anything about Asia tho' Sorry.. All I know is that I sold more Sony cameras than Canon and Nikon combined.

Well, it's insanely hard to find any telescope acsessories here in Indonesia. Especially my telescope is a bit old (Celestron Omni XLT120)
Wow. So you work on camera shop then?

I have a panasonic GH2 and I love it...except you can't get the same dynamic range as you can on a dslr and the focus in low light is worse.
Its my opinion that ANYONE thinking about buying a dslr just for taking better casual pictures would be better served by the lighter, easier to use and more forgiving Mirrorless options.

I work for a big chain in Norway that sell everything from TV's to dishwashers. I'm in the Audio/Video department, but I sell cameras and computers as well.

if your biggest concern is being able to hook up your telescope, you need a nikon slr. They have used the same lens mount for 50 or so years.

Whenever anyone starts asking this kind of question, I always point out that there's no camera that takes worse pictures than one you don't have with you. A smaller camera can take better pictures than a larger, higher quality camera simply by being there when needed.

I have no personal experience with mirrorless cameras. My comment on speed was based on the article I linked. I would think that trying to shoot moving objects — planes, cars, children — could be difficult if your camera doesn't focus quickly. For stationary images, that aren't too far away, a mirrorless would work well.
If you are in the market but don't have lots of money to spend, there are tons of used SLRs, with our without lenses, available from places like B&H Photo, KEH and Adorama. I have a Canon 20D and a Canon 40D, both of which I bought used, and both of which I'm very happy with. I purchased the bodies alone, then got lenses to go along. Those I bought new, but lenses can also be purchased used. That's where things start getting expensive, though, particularly if you're looking for longer faster lenses.

i see..
I have quite some cash to spare on that. I think i'll try looking at DSLRs first. My girl's EOS 550D was 6 trillion times better than my old panasonic.

Canon makes some very affordable entry level SLRs. Most of the newer ones also take video (mine do not). The kit lenses that come with are capable of taking very fine photographs, though, as my brother said, it might be just good enough to piss you off. In other words, if you get to the point where you want to start taking really fine photographs, you might start coming up against the limitations of the lens, particularly in speed and sharpness.
There is an excellent site that provides very thorough reviews of DSLRs and lenses. You might see if they have a write up of the camera you are interested in.

Well, my girl one does take video, but it's VGA resolution.
Thanks for the site!

My pleasure. And if the discussion gets too technical, as it often does, just skip to the conclusion. There is a reap of the analysis, followed by pros and cons.
Good luck!

I'll take the Swiss route and say it's entirely personal preference. I like DSLRs, (I have a 6D, T2i, and 1D mark II N), but I also want the Fuji X-T1 for a walkaround camera when I don't feel like toting around one of the big '
