Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Porsche Active Suspension Management, Bose Upgraded Sound, Carrera Wheels, GT Silver Paint and a ton of other stuff would put the sticker on this WAY over $90k. Titled 2/28/14. Less than 1k miles.
Someone didn't heed Tom's advice

Why does this Porsche get better MPG's than my Subaru?
![]() 05/08/2014 at 02:36 |

siiiiigh
I could buy that, put it on a boat to Australia, pay import taxes and it would still be 45-50 grand less than buying one locally. It's a pity I'd never be able to get it registered.
(addendum: I don't have that kind of money anyway)

Light
DFI
Tall gearing
And magic
![]() 05/08/2014 at 02:39 |

And this is why you never buy a new Cayman.
They depreciate so much harder than 911s.
Great deal for the second owner!

Hello Porsche, yes I have way too much money. I would like to buy a car from you and put less than one thousand miles on it and then sell it. Oh no, I just have an extra $30,000 that I want to throw away, think of it more as a brand new rental car. . . . . . .
![]() 05/08/2014 at 02:45 |
|
addendum point 2: I just checked the Porsche online builder, and to get a very similar car with the same options (standard seats though, cause I can't tell if that one has the upmarket seats): $205,612 drive away.
Fuck being an Australian sometimes.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 02:48 |

Dude the second owner will be like the first owner with this car. . . Less than 1 k on the odometer. . . Fucking silly to buy and sell a car that quickly.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 02:55 |

Yeah totally crazy. Maybe he's getting divorced or something.
Funny to lose that much money for such little enjoyment.
Looks like he has spent money on the 20" wheels. They make the car look silly. 1/5th of the side profile is taken up by the wheels cause they are so huge in relation to the length of the car.

What the fuck? really? How much does a 911 turbo cost down there? Half a million?
![]() 05/08/2014 at 03:42 |
|
In related news, the car now costs what it should have cost in the first place.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 04:11 |

a turbo with no option is like $382k according to the website. Turbo S is closer to half a mill.
It's one part Luxury Car Tax and two parts because they can get away with it because 'Australians have always paid more for luxury goods'
We get Japanese cars pretty cheap though. Soon to be a free trade agreement with them so they'll be even cheaper then.

Well someone's going to get a nice deal.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 04:32 |

I wonder if it's an ex-demo car or something. Apparently it's a 2014 with 365 miles on the clock, so not a normal sale. Maybe a three month lease or something.
Have you seen the price for the carmax warranties on it? :)

On tonight's Doug Demuro:
How i trade my Ferrari for a Porsche at Carmax.

Damn! One owner and 904 miles? What a steal!
![]() 05/08/2014 at 11:48 |

Give it to me, give it to meeeee!
Seriously, though, I'd give it the freedom it deserveth in terms of speed.
50.9k in Euro money is really quite the price; you can probably spec a normal Audi A4 to that level.

Shhhhhhhhh quit giving away our jalop secrets! If dumb people with fat pockets don't go through these cars like pop-rocks, They won't depreciate as much, and I'll have to buy one in 20 years instead of just 10! Stick with the plan!

Time for another addition to the garage?
![]() 05/08/2014 at 12:52 |

Yeah, even looking at older Caymans, they lose value so much more quickly than 911's. Hmm.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 12:54 |
|
Man if I had 71k I would totally buy this. Dat 6MT and GT Silver!
![]() 05/08/2014 at 12:55 |
|
Also, why would you fully spec a Cayman in the first place? If you're going to go all out, do it on a 911.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 12:57 |
|
Also, I want to run a column called "Lightly Pre-Owned Find of the Week" this would be perfect.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:00 |

It's crazy how much harder they drop each year. You can get an older Cayman S for a great price.
Very tempting if you're in the market for a P car...
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:01 |
|
I have no idea!
I'd take a zero option C2S over a $90K Cayman S. The delta wouldn't be much.
And with the C2S you get that sweet, sweet 3.8L
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:03 |
|
Unfortunately, the 987 Cayman is very uncomfortable for me. I have to put the seat so far back in order to get adequate legroom that the seat back hits the firewall and gets pushed forward way too much. This is why I was aspiring to 997's and not the cheaper Cayman.
The 981 on the other hand, felt quite a bit roomier, and has a MUCH nicer interior.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:09 |
|
Totally agree. Wide 18 or 19" wheels would look so much better. imagine something like 9.5"/10.5" staggered. Hmmm
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:11 |
|
Damn. That is a lot of car for a CarMax used car... I wish I had that kind of cash.
I cannot imagine why someone would spend that much, barely drive it, and then trade it so quickly...
Unless the person is solely motivated by style and bragging rights... nothing technical about the car is less than stellar, even if it isn't one of the flashiest, most braggadocious cars on the market.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:16 |
|
Ah, that would be annoying. Bummer because a 2009 Cayman with the DFI engine would be a reliable car.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:18 |
|
And ride better too. Giant wheels with super low profile tires are not comfy. And if you even touch the tire's sidewall the tire pops.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:19 |
|
Yeah, boys. I saw a 2013 BMW B7 Alpina two days ago while looking on Carmax. That car stickers for 140k+ and this one had only 7k miles on it and was going for $72k dollars. Imagine that? loosing over 50% of the cars value after basically breaking it in over 7k miles. Must really suck. Oh well..... Someones getting a great deal.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:25 |
|
it will also give the Cayman equal footing to the 911 in terms of mechanical grip. Porsche gimps the Cayman so much by giving it such narrow wheel/tire combos compared to the 911.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:28 |
|
my Subaru (wrx) is fairly light and hits 50 mph in 1st yet it gets 16 mpg
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:28 |

The 19" Carrera S wheels just look so right on the 981.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:33 |

When the turbo spools up and forces more air in, it's also adding fuel. plus awd.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:34 |

Older engine architecture.
Plus magic.
Porsche really has some secrets they don't share. I can't believe how efficient their cars are.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:34 |

That looks amazing
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:35 |

I hope they don't gimp the next Cayman R (or whatever they end up calling it)
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:38 |

Jalopnik posted something about that yesterday. Cayman GT4.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:46 |
|
I saw that. It was very light on details and seemed like pure speculation.
No way to know what Porsche will really do until they give us official info.
What's funny is that they've raised the prices so much that I really don't think a Cayman R with the 3.8L engine from the C2S would hurt 911 or GT3 sales. They next Cayman R will surely be more expensive than the last. And anyone who has the money for a GT3 will still buy it.

How does this happen?!
![]() 05/08/2014 at 13:54 |

I don't know, Johnny L. got quite a detailed scoop of Porsche's future model plans. The last such scoop was pretty accurate.

Most of the time it's because people have a sudden change of station in life, either due to losing a job or an emergency health issue.
![]() 05/08/2014 at 17:40 |

I hope they make it. I'll just believe it when I see it. Porsche has been so restrictive with the Cayman line...

oh I was joking haha! Subies are drinkers we know that going in. I averaged 14 city driving today not even "spiritedly". 20 psi doesn't help

I've never looked into their efficiency I'll have to check it out!

Got it, haha. I was kind of joking too cause I can't figure out how Porsches are so efficient. I've read up on all the tech and it still doesn't make sense. I think they use gnomes in the engine compartment.

Sounds like a good deal! Love the calipers.

What do you drive friend?

These are my two primary babies. They split DD duties. 997 when I want stick and fuel economy. E90 when I want DCT and people/cargo space
![]() 05/09/2014 at 01:00 |
|
Very nice! I've driven a 997 and I adored it. My buddy here reigntastic has driven me in an e90 m3 (in white:) ) balls to the wall and it was Divine. That engine at full tilt wringing it out is godly sounding. But I guess I don't have to tell you that...
When I finish my degree I want to add another car to my humble stable, e46 m3. May have to sell my baby for it
![]() 05/09/2014 at 02:37 |
|
Thanks!!
Haha how much do babies go for these days? Maybe I need to have one so I can trade it for a Ferrari :)
My third car is an E46 M3 coupe with only 40K miles on it (2004). Want to buy it? I'm having trouble affording all 3 so I'm not putting many miles on the E46 to avoid driving the value down. It is SMG though.
![]() 05/09/2014 at 14:04 |

71k fully loaded? Not sure about that. They have to make some money, you know.
![]() 05/09/2014 at 19:17 |

Porsche makes more money per car than any other automaker in the world. That includes Rolls Royce, Ferrari and Bentley, Bugatti ect... Porsche can afford to knock their prices down a little, especially with the Corvette out there.
![]() 05/09/2014 at 19:50 |
|
Why should they? They didn't get to where they are now by selling their cars for $10 more than it costs to make them. Sure, they can knock their prices down. And then go out of business about 5 years later. They're in business to make money.
![]() 05/09/2014 at 19:55 |
|
They are owned by VW. And everyone says the Cayman is overpriced, it would sell better at a lower price. The biggest problem the Cayman has is, while it's a good car it's not a good value. Everyone says it and it's true. $100k for that thing is too much.
![]() 05/10/2014 at 00:28 |
|
I mean you can get into one for much less than 100k...many tens of thousands less. You don't have to have options. They sell pretty well as is, a lot of people say they're overpriced because a lot of people can't afford a 65-70k car. Which is understandable. I guess they could lower the price a bit...but how much would they need to make a difference? I feel like they know what they're doing.
![]() 05/10/2014 at 01:31 |
|
If you want a 325 hp Cayman S manual (PDK is $4k) with carbon ceramic brakes, sport suspension and nice wheels you're looking at $80k minimum, with just wheels and performance upgrades. Nobody wants a base Cayman. You want the carbon ceramic brakes. You want the sport suspension, and of course the sport exhaust. But that's more than Corvette ZO6 money... and that car has over twice the power. I think a 10-15k price drop would put it in a better spot.
![]() 05/11/2014 at 16:04 |
|
It might...but they sell as many as they can make so there's really no reason to. I mean, you're right it's getting on Z06 money, but they're kind of different vehicles. Honestly, call me crazy, but given the choice I'd just rather have the Porsche...although at that price point I'd rather have a base 911 than a Cayman S with some options.
![]() 05/27/2014 at 04:50 |

I'm several weeks late to the party but just to let you know, the Carrera S wheels are 20".
