Barchetta.
Just sounds right.
And looks right with girls around it.

'Usurper'? The 'Fiat Marchionne-took-the-only-new-car-I-wanted-and-could-afford'?
In all honesty, Barchetta is a great name. Especially as the 'Abarth Barchetta'.

Too many convertibles are called Spiders these days.

+1 Abarth Barchetta sounds pretty boss to me.

Not Abarth, Fiat, Abarth should be reserved for the factory tuned versions, not for for regular cars. Just like SRT, making a brand out of something that was never meant to be one, is a marketing no-no.

What's wrong with buying the Mazda?

I know... I just couldn't bring myself to not buy the Abarth version. Lol.

Simply that I'm a member of the Alfisti, and I don't want a new Mazda (or a Fiat). I want an Alfa :)

That's a bit silly, I can understand those who would buy a Toyota 86 rather than a Scion FR-S, but Mazda are Fiat, are full, respectable brands.

I don't think it is. I'm an Alfa fan. I'm also a Jaguar fan. It's not the respective respectability of the nameplates (I happily plan to drive a BL-era Rover around at some point), merely loyalism to car companies that have shaped my automotive passion.
I've got soft spots for Mazda especially, they make some interesting cars, but not enough for me to shell out an inordinate amount of money for an interesting car when I can get something just as cool used for a fraction of the price.
As far as I see it, the only reason to buy a new car (and waste thousands of your hard-earnts on depreciation) is to support the company that sells that car. If they don't sell what I want, I'll just buy something I do used. I'm not hurting for choice there :)
I suppose that's not the typical way that people shop for cars, but it's the way I do :)

I get you man, though I'm actually pretty happy with a Fiat. You probably know why :p

I've never been like that, I like all brands, some more than others, obviously. But I grow or lose interest in brands, depending on what they do, for example, 10 years ago I couldn't stand Ford, I use to say that Ford doesn't deserve to have its badge on the GT. Most of their cars were awful. Starting with the retro pimpmobile they transformed the Thunderbird in(how can you screw up with a name such as Thunderbird?).
The Mustang that looked like it was designed for the Australian outback.
The Crown Vic dinosaur.
The Freestar that wanted to be both a Chrysler minivan and a Japanese van in disguise.
And the Focus wagon who was pretty good, got almost no marketing because of the sedan and the Ford Escape, who had priority. No wonder most people didn't knew it existed.
But now, seeing the effort Ford has put into reviving the business lately, it started to grow in my eyes. Sure they don't have a Thunderbird that can challenge the Corvette, or a new GT or a Miata rival, but I'm sure that the self proclaimed car guy, Mark Fields, will deliver at least some of those.

True, but Alfa and Fiat started it.

I'm incredibly happy with a Fiat. Not showing any bias here, but as a current Mazda and a current Fiat owner, I'd rather buy the Fiat.

Oh I see :) yeah I've got pretty strong loyalties to a number of marques, based on the past cars they've made. I'll gain or lose respect for car companies based on what they're making at the moment, but respect isn't enough to tempt me away from the companies I have passion for.

Yeah, I'm sure that hot chicks, interested in Italian fashion will be attracted by a car named Geoff. Not.

To be honest though, chicks interested in italian fashion, and italian fashion per se, aren't big on my list of priorities when buying a car... :p
