That's starting to sound rather NP-y.
I used to DD a '67 - they handle like a turd, and the 4 wheel drums are sketchy in the rain, but the sounds are beautiful, and driving one makes you instantly feel 6x classier.
Also, I'm convinced the stock power steering leaked from the factory.

You in a nutshell just described why I would not want to DD a 67 muscle car. Also terrible crash safety. But or a weekend toy this would be great.

Also, 302 is not the original motor - 67s got a 289, the 302 wasn't available until '68. That exhaust is not stock either, and it looks like the side headliner moulding is falling down.

My grandfather bought one new in 1967. He was a doctor making daily house visits in the Belgian countryside and loved big engined cars. I'd love to own a green RX7 Coupe.

But for 5k is it really that bad? Never owning a pony car this would be a great way to get into the hobby.

lol, it was surprisingly reliable. Drove it 30 miles/day for 2 years. Get some disc brake spindles from a fairlane, "shelby drop" the front upper control arms, beef up the bars (be sure to reinforce the frame attachment first, ask how I know) and install a power rack and you will have a very nice driver with decent handling (still no grip, but flat turning and enough feel to have way too much fun for flat vinyl seats).

Not to mention driving 30 miles for 2 days a week would have been fun as hell.

For the area it looks like a good deal. That same moulding fell down on mine, and gorrilla glue did an OK job of holding it up. I de-powered steering because I got so frustrated with it, and consider it a huge improvement, but still not as good as an aftermarket rack and pinion. If you're in the market, go for it. Its a great car to learn on, and mechanical parts are cheap and plentiful. Also, if you don't I might get nostalgic and go buy it myself - I'm only 3 hours away...

NP. Added bonus: you get to tell all your friends you bagged yourself a hot Cougar. I love lame puns.

Sorry for carpet-bombing you with recommendations but you, sir, (or madam?) are hitting all the big points.

Aw man. I looked and looked for a Cougar in February and March and could close a deal on a decent one. This one looks pretty good. Spray it black and slap some 16x7 torque thrusts and you're here.

Wow, that would be quite an improvement from the one on craigslist.

Nope, bought it at the Mercury or Ford dealership. His previous car was a Chevy Chevelle and my dad remembers that when him and his dad exited the dealership in the Mercury Cougar for the first time, they both slammed their faces against the windshield (no seatbelts) as the brakes were a thousand times better and more sensitive than Chevy's. Funny story. After that he bought a Ferrari Dino. Still made the countryside house visits. After that it was all Germans, S classes and Audi Quattro turbos that caught fire.

That is really cool, a Cougar in Europe must be a rare thing. Same with a Chevelle I just didn't think they imported old muscle back then!

You bet. I think there was only one other muscle car in town back then. Those must of been the days!
Funny story regarding the Ferrari, when my grandmother drove it on her grocery run through town, the local butcher would tell her that she needs to have her car checked out because its making one hell of a sound. People didn't know about Italian cars then...
